IMHO, the geographical center is absolutely IRRELEVANT for one simple reason: it assumes that all ACC schools value basketball equally. They don't. The center of the ACC is in North Carolina... but ONLY if you include FSU and Miami in the "average". Make no mistake: basketball is much bigger in New York and Boston than it is in Florida. By contrast, the "football center" of the ACC is further south - though Charlotte is not a bad approximation, TBH.

All of this completely ignores the REAL issue, which is "what's the best way for the ACC to grow fan bases and revenues?" So, is NYC the center of the ACC? Of course not, but that just doesn't matter - as long as it can sell out the tournament.

SELLOUT?
NEW YORK – A street peddler stood at the top of the escalators running up from the subway Tuesday morning. He was dressed in raggy clothes, and wore an old Mets hat.

And he had a fistful of ACC Tournament tickets.

“Ten dollars!” he barked as people took a wide berth from him on the brick concourse outside Barclays Center.

“Where are the seats?” someone finally asked him.

“Where do you want them to be?” the peddler answered.

Let's be real, very few people show on Tue regardless of where the tournament is. Wed is better but Thu-Sat is when the real tournament starts

Back in the day, an ACC Tournament ticket book sold on par with a Masters Tournament badge. I think those are going for something like $6,000 now. You can hardly sell ACC Tournament tickets at face now. It's certainly not all the fault of the new ACC members or the location of the tournament but both are a factor.

I think expansion in general has more to do with it than location or new members

I really don't care where the ACC basketball tournament is held. Its all the same to me.

Play in NYC, Greensboro or on the Moon? No big deal to me.

I am never going to attend the ACC basketball tournament, and likely would not if it were in Baton Rouge.

You guys argue this one. Let me know how it turns out.

SELLOUT?

Anecdotal evidence is also irrelevant. Here's the bottom line (from David Teel):

Quote:The league announced a crowd of 10,612 for Tuesday’s 7 p.m., game between Syracuse and Wake Forest. Both of Thursday’s quarterfinal sessions were listed as sellouts of 17,732.

In 2015, the most recent ACC tournament in Greensboro, Virginia Tech’s Tuesday game against Wake Forest drew 9,003.

So Brooklyn DID sell out on Thursday, and as for the Tuesday games, they didn't sell out but they had more people in attendance than the last tournament in Greensboro...

If you don't like New York city, fine. If you don't like the arena in Brooklyn, fine. Financially it's nothing but good for the ACC, however.

You must yearn for the days Our Lady was independent in basketball as well? Or you don’t like basketball, I’m not sure. Nothing is keeping the Irish from scheduling home and homes with DePaul, Marquette, and Dayton.

Yes, I liked it better when ND basketball was independent.

I am a Notre Dame fan, not a fan of other ACC teams or the ACC itself. I don't even like the whole idea of conferences.

(nothing against the ACC per se, I wasn't a Big East guy either. It is the same for every conference that exists).

I wish every school were independent, making their own schedules, TV deals and bowl arrangements, etc...

I am not a fan of or have a rooting interest in any college athletic conference, at all.

The arguments between fans of opposing conferences is an alien thing to me. I don't get the "conference pride" thing.

So, I have no interest in attending the ACC basketball tournament.

I watch ND play in the ACC Tournament on my television, but don't tune in to watch other games in the Tournament, ever.

I have no interest in watching the other conference schools basketball teams play, that is all. It would be a surprise to me if other schools' fans had any interest in watching ND games.

I've lived in Baton Rouge since 1983 and graduated from LSU Law School. I never attend LSU sporting events. Don't like LSU athletics and have no interest in the SEC.

I am that way about pro sports too. I am a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins (born/raised near Pittsburgh), not major league baseball, NFL football or NHL hockey in general.

I watch those teams, and opposing teams only when they play teams I root for. Otherwise? No real interest here.

For news and discussion that might affect Notre Dame. That is why.

I think that I am one of three ND fans here. Most ND fans have no interest in conference discussions. I rarely see one on a non-ND board.

So, I may be a more "liberal" ND fan than most. :)

It's really fairly simple. Stopping anywhere short of the end is arbitrary:

You don't play in the game but you are happy to see your children succeed (if you have any).

Your children aren't in the game but children of people you know... you pull for them.

Not children you know, but they are from your state or attend your alma mater... you pull for them.

They don't attend your alma mater but they do attend a school in your conference... you pull for them.

Where does it end? Taken to the ultimate conclusion... they are human beings, so you are happy to see them succeed.

Wouldn't the world be a much better place if people would stop stopping short of the end?

It is just a Notre Dame thing (and not just Terry)...they are totally insular.

Either we accept it, they change or the league gives them an ultimatum at the appropriate time.
