Quote:A 21-year-old recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was arrested last week after she allegedly threatened to shoot up a nearby high school.

Abigail Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant armed with a shotgun and living in Rochester, New York, allegedly wrote on East High School's Facebook page, “I'm coming tomorrow morning and I'm going to shoot all of ya b***hes,” the Democrat & Chronicle reported.

The comment was supposedly posted on Feb. 15, just one day after 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz opened fire in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people.

Hernandez was arrested five days after the comment was posted, via an anonymous Facebook account, police said. She has been charged with making a terroristic threat — a felony — and bail has been set at $15,000.

It should be noted the 21-year-old woman is enrolled in the Rochester City School District but does not attend the high school she threatened to attack. East High School Superintendent Shaun Nelms said she is enrolled at another school in Rochester.

Nelms addressed the threat in a letter to parents:

Sadly, in wake of the recent Parkland, Florida, tragedy, schools across the country have been grappling with social media threats intended to instill fear and anxiety.

We remain very grateful to the Rochester Police Department for their partnership and for keeping us well informed throughout the entire process. Their presence on campus last week and their guidance on how to best keep staff and students safe during this efficient, successful police investigation, reiterates their ongoing support.

The superintendent went on to say the district is “fortunate” to be part of “a community in which the police department works closely with schools to ensure the safety of the entire school community.”
