I was checking out the football roster on GoBearcats.com and did a breakdown of where the current players are from. This includes scholarship and preferred walk-ons:

Ohio- 51
Georgia- 12
Florida- 9
Indiana- 9
Michigan-5
Kentucky- 4
Virginia- 4
Illinois- 4
Alabama-3
Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Texas, California and Delaware each with 1.

International: Australia, Bahamas, Canada and Germany

Right now ~50% of the roster are Ohio products. This is a significant shift from just two years ago where only about 1/3 of the roster were from in-state. I anticipate this percentage will increase within the next couple seasons.

That's the overall roster. How does that change when we look at 2018 and 2019? 70% Ohio?

I have seen A Lot of High School football played. Fortunate enough to have seen games in seven states. I will say what I and many others have. "That a college roster with NOTHING but guys from Ohio could win a National Championship and be a TRUE Blueblood" just on the gridiron. Now that doesn't take into play the size of the athletic Dept. etc etc. But if they could find a way to bring that number up (kids from Ohio)- - it would do nothing but help this program. It includes the guys from the class that just signed (not just the ones who are already on campus).

If the past two signing classes are any indication I imagine the roster will hover in the 50-60% range local. They are recruiting Michigan and Illinois hard and there will always be at least a hand full of Georgia and Florida guys to come here every class. This staff has connections down there (Joker Philips).

I agree. I bet this is what we look like with this coaching staff going forward. Recruit mostly Ohio 50%+ and tristate and fill in areas where the coaches have good recruiting ties - Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Georgia and take the occasional that we target elsewhere (Texas, California, international, etc.). TT's staff recruited Virginia pretty hard due to Prunty's connections there. Do we currently recruit there (I know Tenuta coached there in the past but is he actively recruiting Virginia)?

Of concern to me is how young the team is. 70% of the team is Sophomores & Freshmen. Hopefully, some of them will mature quickly so we can win a couple games by the end of the season.

13 Seniors 12%
21 Juniors 19%
29 Sophomores 26%
49 Freshman 44%
= = = =
112 Total

Which is why I have said in other posts that I anticipate a very modest improvement in record this year (5-7 wins), but expect a bigger jump starting next year and then year after that.

To be quite honest it is a good thing we are young. This program needed a culture change in the worst of ways. The guys that are in the senior class basically can't get a lot of the habits they have formed over 3-4 years out of them at this point.

6 is the magic number for me. I expect 6 regular season wins this year, getting us to a bowl game. That is where I want UC this year.

Good to see >5 pipelines in Florida, Georgia, and Indiana...that'll give the +10% boost on any recruiting pitch during the off-season calls to prospects.

Looking through my rose colored glasses, I see six wins too. With the PBS game, that's more like seven games at home. Take five or six of those and pick up just one win somewhere on the road and the Bearcats will be bowling in eight or nine months from now.

I'll be surprised if we get to six wins this year. I'd take it in a heartbeat, but I'll be surprised.
