Ok, CDP haters, he has done what Pirino never did. He won an ACC Tournament game. He now has his 20th win. Way to go David. 07-coffee3

If Padgett won't get the Job, then Mack is the obvious choice.

RE: Louisville's next coach
Screw Chris Mack .... I am not impressed, and the antics that his teams have displayed in the past (including the hand shake line two days ago in the Big East Tourney) automatically disqualify him in my opinion.

Why we feel we need to set our sights this low is beyond me. #1 market by far for college hoops, decades running. Top 5 attendance in men's college hoops decades running. Member of the most prestigious conference in college hoops, by far. State of the art arena to play in. Top 10 tradition in the sport. And we feel that Chris Mack is the answer??

Just because he married a chick from Louisville?

Eff that guy. We can do better.

Will Tyra even try? I know Jurich would. That is the question.

Mack is the best candidate and the hottest name right. He has Xavier #3 in the country and a possible 1 seed. Who would you suggest? Please don't say Donovan or Brad Stevens because that ain't happening

Louisville's next coach
I like Mack, he's done wonders at Xavier, but he shouldn't be the only one on the list. At least talk to Wright at Villanova & Marshall at Wichita State. I think we would have a better shot at Mack & he is younger. If you want to think outside of the box, I heard someone mention Mark Few before. On an extended list I would consider Florida Mike White.

Mack is also knee deep in connections to the FBI scandal -- having one of his players named in one of the latest leaks of info, and coming from the Sean Miller Arizona coaching tree.

Do you really think U of L can bring that back onto itself?

Do you really think U of L can endure the thuggish antics that consistently pop up in Mack's tenure at Xavier?

I don't ...

I agree with you about Brad Stevens. That guy is set.

I am not so sure about Billy Donovan. He's on a collision course with a pink slip, it's just a matter of time. I know this ... Tom Jurich would go after him. I'd make him say no, before I lowered my sights.

I'd also do the same with Fred Hoiberg.

From the college ranks, my personal choice would be Chris Beard at Texas Tech. All he does is win. And he hasn't been linked to any of this FBI stuff, nor has he the exposure to it that many other college coaches have, given his relative "newness" to being a head coach at Division I. But he plays an exciting brand of basketball, and wins with his system, and the players he has inherited. Not relying on pulling 5 star ******** who ultimately will bring down your program.

Yes ... he just signed an extension at Texas Tech, paying him $3 mill a year ... but if I got turned down by Billy Donovan or Fred Hoiberg, I'd make Beard say no to all that I listed in another post.

Other coaches I think are better choices than Mack WITHOUT the potential thug baggage, and FBI taint ...

... Mike White - Florida
... Kevin Keats - NC State
... Danny Hurley - Rhode Island
... Jaime Dixon - TCU
... Mark Few - Gonzaga (admittedly a longshot)
... Jim Belien - Michigan (age, and longshot, but he's very underrated)

The bottom line is there are lots of possibilities, to settle for Chris Mack, who is riskier than hell, given the reputation we need to badly repair.

The advantages Louisville has is long term stability, great fan base, incredible Conference affiliation with world wide exposure . Let the market see Who's interested.

Scotty Davenport is available right now. Not a homerun hire but a good one. Tyra says he wants to hire a coach before April 11 signing day.

You can’t exclude consideration of what the current BoT did to a HoF coach and a top 3 AD. What restrictions are gonna be placed on the next coach? Surely to GOD they aren’t just gonna say, “we trust you”.
Surely there will be harsh monitoring of not only the Coach but the potential recruits.
Surely to God the housing Security will be addressed before a coach is hired, or are we gonna leave that **** for the new coach.
The “best” programs have the “protection staff” and “protection facilities” in place so the Head Coach doesn’t have to be vulnerable to that! Until THAT is done, we should talk to nobody!

I suspected that Texas hired Smart to be able to compete in the ACC.
If he moves to Louisville, then Texas won't move to the ACC.

Did you really think Texas to the ACC was ever possible?

Not saying it’s impossible, but I would be shocked to see Shaka leave Texas after 3 years. I know he was hired by the previous AD at Texas, but I can’t see why he’d leave right now. He seems extremely close with those kids, especially with Andrew Jones being diagnosed with leukemia in the middle of the season.

Having watched Shaka’s run at VCU when I was living in Richmond, he strikes me as the kind of person who would feel he has unfinished business in Austin.

Shaka makes 3 mil a year at Texas and Louisville's contract with Pitino was worth over 5 mil a year. So, Louisville should be able to get him if they want him.

I would be shocked (kinda sorta pun intended) if Shaka Smart was a serious option. Not because he isn't a good coach - he definitely is - he showed that at VCU.

But ...

I know nothing has come out yet on him, or Texas, but some of his recent recruiting wins scream "caution" ...

Put it this way, if Brian Bowen was worth $100,000 to adidas, how much is Mo Bamba worth to Nike or adidas or whoever???

I think U of L has to be SUPER careful in this next hire. The last thing they would want is to hire a guy, and have him become the poster boy for the next round of FBI leaks.

Good thing we don't have people making the hiring decision setting us up for failure. After all, that would be a conspiracy.
