Should UofL seek out Maryland’s former President? How about Gordon Gee? Seems like they have the experience to match our BoT.

They all recognize “ilk”.

Careful with that bunch.....you might end up in the B1G.

Appears pretty certain the hiring order will be:
1) Permanent AD
2) Coach
3) President

Wish the President would have been first but they've drug the process out forever.

Louisville's next coach
There are already some big names available as their season ends on opening round.

Marshall, TB, Shaka Smart, Dixon, Buzz & Keats.

Not a bad list considering that the Saturday games haven't even tipped off yet. Louisville could have a new coach by next weekend.

If he or she didn’t go to Atherton they will never do. The old Atherton is the measure of the new Atherton. We need to search for the “Billy” approval.

I guess my wife should set by the phone & wait for Tyra call? She is an Atherton graduate & athlete. She is also a UofL alumnus & athlete. The Cards will be in good hands with us on the sideline!

Do you really want TB? I assume that's Tony Bennet. Louisville doesn't need to run his system to be successful. Y'all recruit at a much higher level.

Do you really want Buzz? He's very quirky and may not rub the Louisville fan base the right way.

I'd love to see Jamie Dixon in Louisville but I think y'all should get someone younger.

Greg Marshall is waiting for the Kansas job in my opinion. I don't think he'd come to Louisville. Just an opinion.

Shaka Smart I think y'all can get. Y'all pay a lot more than Texas but what has he done outside of the final 4 run. He's made a few NCAA tourneys and made the A10 Finals every year. I think y'all can do better.

Keats? As in Kevin Keats at NCST. What is this desire for other ACC coaches that are not as accomplished as Louisville former coaches? He's been there 1 year. I'd wait until he does more than make the NCAA tourney and go out in the first round.

The best coach you mentioned that I think you can get is Dixon. After checking he's only 52. Go for it, he's got another 10-15 good years left in him and I hate to see a coach that good rot in the big 12.

This is the ACC, we don't usually poach coaches from conference mates like the SEC does on a regular basis.

BTW Shaka is already making $5 mil. a year and not having to win championships.

Poaching coaches from within your conference is considered bad form. Louisville has acted as a rogue program for a long time. It needs to get away from that mindset.

It's possible that it would be a mutual decision for Texas and Shaka to part ways. It would be dumb on Texas' part but it could happen.

That was just a list of who was available at that time, more of a play on the tourney upsets. I think Mack (Xavier) is the front runner but I would love to have Wright (Nova) but I would assume that the odds of him leaving are slim. TB hasn't done a thing in March so I would take a pass on him & I don't see the UofL poaching a coach from a conference mate. My preference, if we can't get Wright, Mack, Marshall, Donovan or Smart then I would keep Padgett.

BTW Shaka is rumored to be reaching out to Louisville. As far as poaching coaches from conference mates, I agree that it is bad form & I don't see the UofL doing it.

Your preferences sound like a reasonable list for Louisville. I hope y'all get Mack. I don't think Wright is going any where and I'm not sold on Smart. I think Smart was a great VCU coach. I'm not so sure about him at a major program.

Most U of L fans LOVE Buzz Williams, having played against him while conference mates at Marquette.

I don't think we'll go after him. But there is a LOT of respect for Buzz in Louisville.

RE: Louisville's next coach
I think it's practically a done deal, much to my chagrin, that Chris Mack is going to be the next coach at U of L.

I am not sure he's a great fit. But who knows.

I also worry that he will be caught up in the FBI probe even more. He was, afterall, Sean Miller's main assistant for several years at Xavier. We know how involved Miller is reportedly involved in the FBI dealio.

For me ... you aim real high (kinda like when we went after Rick Pitino 18 years ago). Why not throw a truck load of cash at Bully Donovan?

Chris Mack will still be there if you get turned down.

I also like several other college coaches still dancing ... Chris Beard at Texas Tech just signed a 6 year extension for $3 million a year. But that doesn't scare me. We can afford that. All that guy does is win, at whatever level he coaches. NOT relying on 5 star guys, or even 4 star guys.

I like Eric Musselman at Nevada a lot too --- NBA experience too.

Not sure about Shaka Smart. But maybe.

Having said all that ... I don't think any of it matters.

I think it's Chris Mack. So ... hopefully it won't be the train wreck I think it could be.

I think Mack is leading the pack right now with Smart coming in second. I agree with you on Smart. I would love to have Wright or Donovan but I think they're long shots. I don't think Donovan will come due to the way UofL fired Pitino & he has a good job already. Wright would be a grand slam hire but he has a great job & a great situation already. Louisville could offer more $ & yearly games against coach K & Williams though, I don't know if that's enough to pry him away. That takes us to Mack, Marshall & Smart. After them I would keep Padgett. Buzz is a solid coach but he's at VT, a conference mate. My next tier would be TT & Fla coaches.
