I think I know who might take that job.

How about Harvey Weinstein? He doesn't know anything about basketball, but he has the requisite character traits.

RE: Louisville's next coach
Posting a serious reply in a thread that is clearly not serious isn't the best idea ... but ....

A job that has only come open once in 47 years ...

with a home attendance that has been top 5 in the sport for several decades ....

in a market that has easily been number 1 in the sport for well over a decade ....

and the resources to compete at the highest level of the game in the most storied basketball conference in the game ....

.... the list of potential candidates for the head coaching job will be long.

I for one hope it is NOT Chris Mack. When you "out thug" your cross town rival in Cincinnati (no easy feat mind you), it is definitely nothing I want any part of.

I think Gregg Marshall's recent comments in the media, while it totally fits his reputation, hopefully disqualifies him.

The FBI investigation, which may taint up to 50 different programs before its all said and done, makes this selection dicier than most.

Difficult to follow two Hall of Fame Coaches...
Poor Dave has had just a taste of what the permanent coach will face.
Louisville basketball fans aren't worth the headache.

I don’t see Chris Mack because he’s got X top 5. What about a guy like Frank Martin? Hasn’t really blown the roof off of SC, but I feel like he’d be the type of coach to end up taking the gig. You have to consider Pitino wasn’t coming from another college gig and Crum was a lifer. Sampson? This is definitely the most intriguing coaching search in a while. Johnny Dawkins? Nah, I don’t see a Dookie taking that gig.

Whoever gets the gig can't have even a whiff of NCAA issues ... Frank Martin gave Brian Bowen a place on his roster. For this reason alone, I don't see Martin as a possibility.

In addition to that ... there are other things .... PJ Dozier, a member of the Gamecock Final Four team, was a strong U of L lean until his surprise announcement to go to South Carolina ... PJ's lead recruiter for South Carolina was one of the assistant coaches arrested in September -- now on the Oklahoma State staff. (And this next statement is purely speculative on my part, but I think this PJ Dozier situation is what finally pushed Pitino over the edge ... thinking "F this. Noone is getting caught in all this bull crap. I'm not getting younger. Screw it. Get me Adidas on the phone." But ... again ... that's just my gut on this.)

Martin also had some shady stuff swirling around him as the lead assistant to Bob Huggins at Kansas State ...

Now ... having said all that ... I think Frank Martin is a pretty good coach. When it comes to X's and O's.

Makes sense. It’ll probably end up being a low major/mid-major coach with a run. I can’t see an established coach moving.

I was hoping to grab Chris Beard at Texas Tech. But he just went from about $300K a year, to $3 million a year over the next 6 years.

That dude can coach. A year after Ark Little Rock went 13-18, he got them to 30-5 and a 12 seed winner over 5 seed Purdue. In his second year at Tex Tech, he had them in contention for the Big XII. His one year in the ABA (yes, it made a comeback, at least for a while) for an expansion franchise, he went undefeated until the championship series, where he lost a best of 3 series.

But T Tech just invested heavily in him. I don't see him moving right now, even to a top 10 program, with top 5 attendance, in the #1 TV market for college basketball, in the historically best college basketball conference of all time.

Yeah, he’s great. I think Tech is his alma mater too. Or he was an assistant there or he’s from the area. I remember reading that when he backed out of the UNLV job.

Matt Rhule (a good football coach) took the Baylor job when it looked like no decent coach would. I'm sure Louisville will be able to make a good hire, and surprise a lot of people. Padgett has done a remarkable job this year, it is a shame his past association with the program will prevent him for being a candidate for the permanent position.

Remarkable job? I love David, but there's a reason ACC fans are wanting us to keep him. 19-12 doesn't cut it here. Louisville Basketball is not a job for someone with no experience. The target should and will be Chris Mack.

RE: Louisville's next coach
There is a reason that when you heard Xavier's name dropped last week with Yahoo's AgentGate article that Mack was one of the first or only coaches to make a public statement. Money is no object at Louisville when it comes to basketball. Never has been, never will be. Mack is looking at a significant pay increase to bring his wife home to Louisville.
