I didn't say I wouldn't laugh!

I just said I wouldn't have a problem with them trying to claim it.

I agree. FWIW, I don't care if ECU claims to be national champs for last year, it has just as much validity as UCF's claim, and neither impacts my day in any way.

It's just silly, though, like say the San Francisco 49ers claiming to be the "NFL Champs" even though Philly won the Super Bowl, because the Niners think they should have made the playoffs. It's just nonsense.

I can't blame Aresco for his P6 campaign, he is way-overpaid by the AAC to promote its interest, and it is in the interest of the AAC to be viewed as superior to the other G5 conferences. He's just doing his job.

That said, I don't blame Frazier either, because he is doing his job too. As much as Aresco might want to say that the P6 campaign is about "ourselves" and not the rest of the G5, when you say you are above the rest of the G5, which "P6" definitely does do, then you are doing something that harms NIU and the rest of the G5. Because instead of being behind just 5 conferences, Aresco is saying they are actually behind 6 conferences.

So Frazier is correctly combating the AAC's "P6" campaign because it does harm his conference/school interests.

Trouble in paradise?

So let me see.

The P5 "demeans" the G5 = BAD

One of the G5 "demeans" the rest of the class = OK

Sounds to me like NIU has a butt-hurt athletic director. If he doesn't like the AAC's marketing campaign he's free to start one of his own.

Perhaps.

Or perhaps NIU (and as stated Boise) has arguably a better track record than Johnny Come Lately UCF yet never felt the need to pat itself on the back to the point of it's arm breaking.....

Or perhaps it's delusions of grandeur.

Why do you even care about the AAC's campaign or UCF's claimed National Championship? Aren't you a Wisconsin and a Notre Dame fan? Its no skin off your nose one way or the other; those claims do not conflict or harm Wisconsin or Notre Dame in any way, shape or form.

Are you a G5 alum but a Wisconsin and Notre Dame T-shirt fan?

Because it's BOGUS maybe?

They can "claim" to be national champs all they want, but the truth is they aren't. Their claim is a joke and quite frankly is a slap in the face to the REAL national champion.

Their campaign is the sports equivalent of someone getting their doctorate from the American Global University School of Medicine and claiming it's just as good as a doctorate from Harvard Medical.

Claiming your mid level conference is "just as good" as the power conferences and "better" than the other mid-levels is bragging about wining a tallest midget competition.

It's like that gnat that buzzes your face, you try and ignore it because it doesn't "harm" you but eventually you swat it because it's annoying.

False equivalency but I love that it bothers you so much.

03-idea Do I think the P5 is fair? No, and I am a supporter on a 16 team playoff. that includes the P5 and the G5 conference champions. With that said, I am glad Louisville made it to the P5. End of the day, everybody has to claw there own way up. Louisville started the climb in 1971 and join the ACC in 2014. Folks, that was a 43 year climb. 07-coffee3

There’s a reason I’ve campaigned over a year for NIU to enforce a gag order on Frazier.

You're forgetting that Cincinnati won the first bowl game ever played, in January 1898 vs LSU. This predates the first Rose Bowl by 4 years.

Cincinnati also won the 1947 Sun Bowl (against Virginia Tech) and the 1949 Glass Bowl (against Toledo) - back when any bowl game was a major achievement.

Not sure that "clawed" is the right word to describe how UofL achieved its ascendency. "Flawed" might be a more apt description of its modus operandi. But whatever works, right?

NIU doesn't belong in the same sentence as Boise or UCF. They got blown out in their one NY6 game and traveled an embarrassingly small contingent.

The future it seems like there will be less or a stagnating money source for conference TV deals.

Money growth then will have to be in the post season which is not very well monetized

The G5 may be either bumped up to CFP contract bowls or forced to consolidate for them into a P8. That will end a lot of the complaining IMO.

Being a P conference is not having to advertise that you're a P conference

Tell that to all the Bama fans who get so defensive when it is pointed out UCF won the national title per at least one legit (former BCS) poll.

Sure why not....

Holiday Bowl (MWC Champ vs. MAC Champ)
Independence Bowl (SBC Champ vs. CUSA Champ)

G4 conference champ guaranteed at least a mid-tier bowl game.

AAC can then fish around for bowls against 8th, 9th, 10th place teams for its champ.

I get where he's coming from in removing the top average performer (on field, ratings, budgets, salaries, attendance, recruiting...) the remaining collective average declines. As he is a proponent of a separate G5 playoff which would assumably have a separate collective TV deal, it is beneficial, maybe even necessary, to have the top conference (real or perceived) involved.
