Trouble in paradise?
So let me see.
The P5 "demeans" the G5 = BAD
One of the G5 "demeans" the rest of the class = OK
Sounds to me like NIU has a butt-hurt athletic director. If he doesn't like the AAC's marketing campaign he's free to start one of his own.

The AAC's Power 6 promotional push irritates me, which quite frankly is the only metric worth considering.

It only irritates me because it is stupid.
I had no problem with UCF atanding against the playoff format and committee. The format is absurd and should include all FBS conference champions. UCF not having its shot because of a committee is a travesty.
The "P6" concept is just dumb.

I make fun of the AAC Power 6 campaign too, but nobody cares what the AD of Northern Illinois says.

Just re-read the article and saw Dennis Dodds authored it. You guys realize this is a troll job right?

Well it is about a troll job so it fits.
I think P6 is stupid branding because it fails the underpromise overdeliver premise. Barring some comet strike type of change AAC isn't getting P5 money from post-season nor P5 like access. At some point any fan who bought into P6 is going to get angry that the league has failed to deliver. They are going to blame someone whether it's the commissioner, their own AD or their own president, someone becomes the focal point of their anger.
UCF National Championship? Love it. No one is buying UCF was national champs outside some fanatics but its a funny troll of the CFP system to be enjoyed especially when people get so angry about it.

RE: AAC 'Power Six' push, UCF title claim irritate at least some Group of Five brethren
The AAC looked to separate itself with its P6 branding strategy. While it has not admitted them into the power conference structure, it has definitely provided a perception that they are different from the G5. In this regard, I would say it has been very successful. Every other G5 conference had/has the opportunity to make efforts to show they should be included, whether that his on-field success, athletic budgets, resources, scheduling, coaches, etc. The AAC just took it and ran with it.

Perhaps.
Or perhaps NIU (and as stated Boise) has arguably a better track record than Johnny Come Lately UCF yet never felt the need to pat itself on the back to the point of it's arm breaking.....
Or perhaps it's delusions of grandeur.

RE: AAC 'Power Six' push, UCF title claim irritate at least some Group of Five brethren
"What it does is marginalize the Mountain West," Frazier said. "It marginalizes our conference. [The AAC] doesn't have the data set to prove that. Most of those schools don't have a history of winning. They don't have a history of winning like Northern Illinois, Boise State."
Yes this is basically the goal of the campaign. To have fans and recruits think the AAC is a step above the MWC, MAC, CUSA and Sun Belt.
"I'm still not there to believe we should be playing for a national title for a number of reasons. The wear and tear of the these conferences [for one]. The SEC West or ACC -- week in, week out -- require that you're tested every weekend. Am I tested every weekend in the MAC? Probably not."
I wouldn't want this quote or the "there should be a P5 playoff" thing coming from the AD of UConn

lol...C'mon. How big a troll is it when your announcing to the world--"WE'RE NUMBER SIX!!!!"
The reality is its true (we ARE number 6) and it serves as an excellent marketing tool to differentiate the AAC widgets from the other G5 widgets. It reminds of the Avis "we're number 2 so we try harder campaign. 7-up did something similar years ago with thier "The Un-Cola" campaign. The goal was to differentiate themselves from other soft drinks. Nobody is expecting P5 money. The idea is simply to get people to see AAC football as being pretty fun to watch--thus raising ratings in advance of contract negotiations.
Frankly, I find Frazier's comments FAR more damaging and demeaning to the G5 than the AAC marketing blitz. Of course, that's what FRazier really wants--the G5 to split off and be happy with some sort of worthless Pee Wee Playoff on BeIn.

Why do you even care about the AAC's campaign or UCF's claimed National Championship? Aren't you a Wisconsin and a Notre Dame fan? Its no skin off your nose one way or the other; those claims do not conflict or harm Wisconsin or Notre Dame in any way, shape or form.
Are you a G5 alum but a Wisconsin and Notre Dame T-shirt fan?

Mello Yellow was so upset at 7-up for insulting them with that campaign.

I've always said I didn't care if UCF claimed a title or not.
I don't blame the AAC for wanting to separate itself. In all honesty, how could you blame them for that?

Because it's BOGUS maybe?
They can "claim" to be national champs all they want, but the truth is they aren't. Their claim is a joke and quite frankly is a slap in the face to the REAL national champion.
Their campaign is the sports equivalent of someone getting their doctorate from the American Global University School of Medicine and claiming it's just as good as a doctorate from Harvard Medical.
Claiming your mid level conference is "just as good" as the power conferences and "better" than the other mid-levels is bragging about wining a tallest midget competition.
It's like that gnat that buzzes your face, you try and ignore it because it doesn't "harm" you but eventually you swat it because it's annoying.

It's irritating "some" of the G5? The NIU AD is the only person quoted, and he is always running his mouth.
By the way, most of his so called facts are wrong.
