That's way more fair than this one and done crap that eliminates the best team from the 1-bid conferences far too often.

What's fair is what each conference decides. If a team gets hot and wins 3/4 games in March, then they get the bid. If the conference wants to change the rules, it's up to them.

One thing I'm surprised that more conferences have not done is the double bye for its top teams. I know some have, but conferences like the Horizon should.

a lot of times I know in the past conferences that do that haven't had success with it. a team gets hot in the conference tourney and then they just don't stop.

RE: 2018 NIT/CBI/CIT bids and declines
I'm a fan of conference tournaments where the 1 and 2 seeds have byes to the semi-finals, 3 and 4 have byes to the quarter finals, and the rest of the pack hav to fight their way up. It rewards teams for strong conference play in the regular season and increases your chances of landing your most deriving teams into the Big Dance.

Some have tried that and it still didn't work. The lower seeded teams still broke through the double bye.

NYC Buckets says Canisius is the first team in the CBI, while Duquesne and Tennessee Tech will not take a CBI/CIT invite.

Miami will be in a tourney TBD, likely the CBI since CIT participants have to have a winning record (we're 16-17).

Wish the NIT would go to 64 teams like the WNIT.

Dear lord know. It is bad enough to have 36 to play to be the 69th best time.

Presumably a 64-team NIT would cripple if not outright kill the CBI and CIT, so you'd still have the same number of postseason teams or possibly fewer.

Fort Wayne is hosting a CIT game and Central Michigan is also participating.

Teams rejecting the CBI/CIT: Albany, Ball State, Hawaii, Oakland, Old Dominion, SMU, Wyoming

NIT needs to go 64 and CBI/CIT banned. CBI/CIT games on tv is ridiculous.

South Carolina is also taking a pass on the third-tier tournaments, though they wouldn't qualify for the CIT as a power-conference school anyway and the CBI hasn't had one since Texas A&M and Oregon State in 2014, so it may be a moot point.

You do realize the NCAA bought the NIT as the were being sued for Anti-Trust by the NIT? CBI/CIT would love to cash in if the NCAA were to do this. This why I crack up when people complain the CFP is anti-trust and want the NCAA to take over. It was the 1980's supreme court ruling against the NCAA for violating Anti-Trust. NIT was just too late to realize they should have done this first.

265 RPI Abilene Christian is playing a nationally televised game next week. EIEIO needs to go.

Don't watch. Nobody forces you to watch the CIT or the Cure Bowl. Some might enjoy it. Good for ACU and their players.

That wouldn't be the end of the world.

The bigger issue is how it would take more time to complete and be further buried under the headlines and broadcasting times since as long as NCAA Tournament games are being contested, no one but college basketball diehards and fan bases of participating teams will pay any attention.
