Discussion of right and left wing populism growing in Europe and the US. Contrasts our two party system with the multi-party systems of Europe. I think those who wish for multiple parties like Europe should remember the saying, "Be careful what you wish for, you might get it."
Anything more than 3 or 4 is a mess. And it means those parties aren't necessarily stable because of their small vote totals.

People act like this springs up from nothing. Hate is on the rise! A bad statistical fluctuation!

Well, it actually comes from European center parties ceding sovereignty to unelected elite in Brussels.

It comes from not allowing people to vote on issues.

When they do get to vote and vote the wrong way, the elite just hold more votes until they get the result they want.

Or they just go around the voters with a treaty.

So the voters react in the only way open to them. They vote out the people that do not care what they think. They look around and find someone who promises to bring down the system...and who are they?

So this "rise" is directly attributable to the center right and center left.

They can stop it. By doing as their people want instead of treating their people as an obstacle to overcome.
