I believe there have been far more Republican Presidents since LBJ and I have no idea how many congress' have been predominately republican. It looks as though the democratic party is a minority one. How, in your opinion, have they been able to wreak so much havoc on this country? Are dems alone responsible for all the bureaucracy and regulations everyone seems to hate? Why haven't earlier repub presidents taken any of Trumps moves to strengthen the economy?
I think in all fairness many on here would agree repubs have not done that great a job of reducing the national debt. Why?

Hoping for real answers, not snark.

I'd humbly suggest you go read a history book, and tell us how many "congress"' have been Republican since LBJ.

Be a scant few.

But, I can't do the work of those that won't do it themselves. 07-coffee3

Republicans have had control of Senate since 1995 with the exception of a tie in 2001-03 and Democratic majority from 2009-15. Republicans have had control of House since 1995 with the exception of 2007-11.

The Democrats took over the Senate in 2007 with 2 independents caucusing with them, 49+2 vs. 49.

Tom, I've just got to stop you from making yourself look foolish here

NOBODY RAN for the popular vote.... so nobody cares.

Republicans also PICKED UP seats in both houses AND iirc in Governor's mansions during that period. How the HELL can you believe that 'being a democrat' gained in popularity?

YOUR ARGUMENT IS PATENTLY WRONG!

ALL you've proved is what I saw first hand out here in California...

That something like 80% of the population in one very large county and perhaps over 90% of another voted for one candidate. Those numbers ALONE MORE than make up for the difference you think matters.

All it means is that San Francisco, Los Angeles, and to a somewhat lesser, though still broad, New York City and Chicago lead VERY VERY VERY hard left.

In other words, Democrats TEND to congregate in large population centers while republicans TEND to populate less densely populated areas. I don't think there is anywhere in the country that skews as far 'right' as Los Angeles and San Francisco skew 'left'.... CERTAINLY not with those numbers....

but they still only represent two cities and one state, albeit very populous ones.

Why are you surprised? Where else are you gonna find Starbucks and Gay Parades. You sure won't find them in mainstream America.

Funny how journalists got Americans to tag Republicans as red.

I'm not, but i think the answer is more simple....

At its core, the democratic party believes in 'the strength of community' while the republican party believes in 'the strength of an individual/family'. Democrats seek large urban areas because that is where 'community' is most important, and smaller rural areas are where individuals/families are most important.

Please don't pick apart any definitions I've used here... not intended as a slight to anyone... merely that 'what your neighbor is doing' is more of a impact on you in apartment 4b than it is in Mail Stop 7 Route 43. The comfort, use and purpose of guns, collective bargaining, social services etc etc etc will vary widely in those two extremes.

FTR, my previous comment wasn't meant to imply that Republican ideals are gaining faster than democratic ones... merely that the opposite isn't demonstrably true either.

It seems to me that Democrats seek emotional solutions while Republicans seek logical ones. Democrats see Republicans as uncaring. Republicans see Democrats as unrealistic.
