Lol, now Nashville can say they are M.A.F too...
Hey, while doing some school budget research for another topic I ran across this...
Shelby County Schools (Memphis)
Schools: 221
Charter Schools: 45
Enrollment: 112,077
Economically Disadvantages Students: 66,238 (59.1%)
English Language Learners: 9,467 (8.4%)
Davidson County Schools (Nashville)
Schools: 163
Charter Schools: 24
Enrollment: 85,123
Economically Disadvantages Students: 45,881 (53.9%)
English Language Learners: 14,989 (17.6%)
Back in the 80s folks in Memphis started rumbling about apparent gang activity. The mayor, council members and police chief would tell us that that wasn't going on, we were worried about nothing... false alarms.
Well, it eventually became very apparent Memphis had a gang problem. After drastic increases in crime statistics the authorities had to admit it -- gangs were here.
Then it was Nashville's turn. They saw increases in crime but said "No gang problem here!"
But you can't keep that hidden forever (kinda like you can't keep nudie mayor pics hidden, either).
Anyway, a comparison of the school stats above supports the parallel path Nashville finds itself on with Memphis.
