ACC Tournament---please say it ain't so
http://www.greensboro.com/sports/accxtra...697f5.html

He was sort of referring to the stock market and sort of referring to the weather, but mostly he was saying the forecast for the future of the tournament is strong and steady. The tournament will go back to Greensboro. But it will also likely go back to Brooklyn. And Washington.

And, yes, Charlotte.

“Our experience here last year was very, very good,” Swofford said on the first day of what is going to be a memorable week back in Brooklyn. “The rotation of North Carolina, Washington and New York has worked well.”

Brooklyn?
If we have to share the Tournament with THEM, I'm for booting Syracuse, Boston College and yes even Louisville, and Pittsburgh....now.
Washington DC?...there is no need, we don't even have a team there any more.
We have sold our souls for 30 pieces of silver.

The ACC's strategy was sealed the moment it decided to raid the Big East in 2003. That strategy to dominate the eastern seaboard necessitates a presence in the defacto capital of the eastern seaboard. Get used to it. You better just hope that it eventually doesn't move to NYC permanently.

As a destination city, I prefer DC to New York. If it is really about destination then why not think out of the box, like Puerto Rico?

LOL, Not at all surprised at who started this nonsense. But I believe the following snippet from the article says all that needs to be said:

We’ve got markets that give us opportunities we’ve never had before,” Swofford said. “But at the same time, the roots of the ACC are in North Carolina particularly, but we also have a third of our league or so (from) out of another great basketball conference.”

In other words, Swofford believes it’s time to embrace the ACC’s history along with that of the Big East schools that have joined in recent years.

Washington and New York are now equal to Greensboro and Charlotte in terms of future tournament sites. And just as importantly, for now, no one else is.

I'm sure we've discussed this previously, but I think a 4-year rotation Greensboro, Brooklyn, Charlotte & DC is perfect for the conference.

I'd prefer Charlotte, DC, and Brooklyn, but throwing Gboro in doesn't for the sake of history doesn't bother me.

Audience driven expansion. It's why I loved joining the ACC over the Big12. Change is gonna hit some more than others.

The tournament is not going to NYC full time, nor is it going to stay in Greensboro permanently. Charlotte & DC appear to be the biggest winners since both might not be in the rotation under the old ACC

I think that Chicago and Indianapolis would be great places for the ACC Tournament.

Sort of taking the offensive against the Big Ten, don't ya know? 05-stirthepot

I'd rather it just bounce between Greensboro and Brooklyn.

It's cold, but sunny in Greensboro. I'd be able to fit in 18 and gin martini before this evening's festivities.

Seriously, then the North Carolina schools can stop whining and have their tournament every year in Greensboro just like they want.

If that's the way it is going to be then why not make it a 4 year rotation with the 4th being (Atlanta/Greensboro/Orlando)?

Orlando?

Hell, through Pittsburgh in then too.

Charlotte has the football championship...permanently, and no one has a problem with that. The conference doesn't benefit any more from going to Charlotte for hoops as well. NC is already saturated and there is no new market penetration to be gained.

NYC...DC...Greensboro: That should be it, 3 year rotation...book up Brooklyn with the A10 and lock the B10 out.

You could make a case for Atlanta to go into a 4 year rotation, but I think the less sites the better in order for fans get a sense of familiarity with the cities and rotation.

Charlotte is in the rotation because it's atena is downtown & has alot of hotels along with alot of entertainment options but at significantly less $$$ than New York or DC. ATL would also be a good option but they appear to be out for now
