RE: Interview with Mike Aresco
By the way, the SunBelt and SEC have a coordination with refs as well as the MW and Pac 12. Don't read to much into it.

Football, please let it be The PAC...

IDK... do we really want that kind of travel? How about the BigX.

I think you already know the answear to that ^^^

The B12 would be nice for football and basketball... It would gives us all here in Houston a chance to remind them BONGhorns who the real football kings are... Hehe

I think the Big12 wants to avoid the AAC after the media fiasco and their crap talk with their ADs and The Texas Tech doofus who said UCF wasn't a good team. Either way hook the Big12 I rather do something with the SEC or PAC12.

But, I wonder what the need for working with another league on officiating brings. Does anybody know?

Reduction in overhead and improved quality. IMO the only two conferences that make sense would be either the BXII or C-USA due to location of officials and conference HQ (I realize the AAC has not moved to Dallas yet).

I realize many would be up in arms if it is C-USA but it does make some sense from a financial and quality standpoint. Adding the best of their crew to ours lifts all boats. As it currently stands we get some bad officiating on Saturdays in the fall because of the number of games and the lack of depth in good officials.

I think the cost side of thing needs little explanation.

It's not CUSA. Aresco said in the podcast that they were talking with another power conference because they have better resources.

You must have listened to a different podcast. I played the podcast twice and I did not hear him say they were talking with another power conference.

About the 15:00 minute mark. Start listening at about 14:30. He distinctly says .....talking with ANOTHER conference

So who and what?
Big 12 referees?

Wasn't the SEC trying out centralized replay this year?

Even though they seem like the least likely conference to work with us their footprint and ours do overlap to a significant extent so pooling resources makes some sense.

SEC refs will love going to Uconn and Temple

North Philly will toughen them up a little.

My sister got her PhD at Temple. got mugged on her way to school one day. My old Army buddy was a professor there (since moved to Drexel) heard glass breaking in his town home kitchen. He came down to find a hand reaching through the window over his sink. He stabbed it with a knife he'd been given by a former counterpart in Russia. Whoever it was left. Gentrification of North Philly can't come soon enough.

Again, based on what?

I'm the interview he didn't mention a conference but the whole attitude was that that he is pushing towards scheduling against P5 and trying to distance himself from the rest of the G5. This fits more in line with what he's trying to do. There is a market for AAC games and scheduling as discussed in the interview.

Thinking about them trying to gain tv viewers and opponents in the eastern markets.. ACC and SEC already have the market being shared and big ten can get more home games from AAC and influence recruits...

Don't know what goals Aresco has for the Big10 that you are talking about. Also, it was my understanding that Aresco was only talking about a consortium for sharing officials, centralized replay etc.

I think you are stretching things to the extreme.

Yeah. Post #27 here tells the time of the podcast to go back and listen. In that section/response he talks about the consoritum, and choosing another P6 to work with because of resources, then broadens scope to talk about strengthening ties with other P6s. Here is where he digresses to talk of scheduling other P6s, but circles back to officiating after that -- the bits about scheduling, P6 ties, are part and parcel of the response to the officiating/replay consortium. (and then post #18 includes a different answer than big10)

I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but didn't Aresco recently mention the B1G recognizing the AAC as a quasi power team regarding scheduling...which could just reference the few previously singled out or maybe something more... That's where my mind first went anyway.

Right, those scheduled games would count and others could as well on a case by case review. It was left open ended.

ETA: http://www.fbschedules.com/2015/09/big-t...opponents/

Quote:Last week, it was reported by the Indianapolis Star that Indiana had been granted an exception to count Cincinnati and UConn as Power Five teams for scheduling purposes.

The Hoosiers already have future home-and-home series set up against both Cincinnati and UConn, which dates back to last year. IU and Cincinnati are set for 2021 and 2022, while the Hoosiers will take on UConn in 2019 and 2020.

According to Big Ten senior associate commissioner Mark Rudner, more Group of Five teams could be included.

“We looked at their RPI for the last five or six years,” Rudner told the Star’s Mark Alesia. “If someone comes to us with a request, we’ll evaluate it. That’s what happened with these two. Those seemed to fit.”

Today we learned of two more schools, one Independent and one from the American Athletic Conference, that will supposedly count towards the Big Ten’s scheduling requirement. Those two teams are Army and Navy, per Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com.
