Nashville, Birmingham, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Memphis, Asheville. Anywhere over here where fans can show up. I do realize the city has to 'want' us to come and it's not just the flip of a switch, but at some point the conference just has to call a spade a spade and realize the eastern teams are the ones that are carrying the conference in basketball.

About 3 hours from Murfreesboro
About 4 hours from Bowling Green
About 4 hours from Charlotte
4 hours from Birmingham
4.5 hours from Huntington
7.5 hours from Hattiesburg
8 hours from Norfolk.

With the right facilities that's another good central point for the most teams.

A flight to Nashville costs the same as a flight to Dallas for us. Difference is people can actually drive if they want to. It's a 20 hour drive to Dallas.

Yeah, drivability is big. When you are bringing the family and have to purchase multiple plane tickets, it becomes unreasonable for most people. 10 hour drive to Nashville is doable, but not really a decision that can reasonably be made on Friday evening after winning the semis for a Saturday game and too far to plan ahead and wind up going home if you bow out early unless we were in the position that we are getting a bid regardless and can enjoy the tournament no matter what happens (it has been 7 years since we have been in that position). Honestly, I wouldn't go because I have gotten too old to decide to make a 10 hour drive at 7:00 on a Friday night and have anything left in the tank on Saturday or for a drive home after an extra night in a hotel. Charlotte is definitely preferable to Nashville. I could definitely still do 5 hours on a Saturday and possibly even back after the game without spending the night or at least some of the way back and stay at a Red Roof off the interstate for $50 instead of a Charlotte uptown priced hotel... and my son would be down for it.

We will be back, the new AD stated in his press conference that bad basketball isn't an option for us. As for the fans, we are dying to get to the times when other schools hated us with a passion.

RE: I may be the only to feel this way but...
Texas is just too big the only team close to this arena is UNT, it is at least over 4 hours to get there from the other C-USA Texas schools and it doesn't help that the early games are in the middle of the week. I think more La Tech fas would have made the drive if they didn't have a down year but still somewhere more neutral for at least a majority of the conference would make way more sense but then nothing in this conference does make sense so its not surprising they chose Frisco. I don't think going back to birmingham was the right move either though it obviously wasn't working.

Also, the tourney needs to be in a place closest to the schools that fill their arenas. Marshall, ODU, Middle, WKU, UAB. If Charlotte became good again I'm sure their support would grow. Basically Charlotte or Nashville should be the main choices to hold the tourney.

If the West teams had all the attendance numbers keep it in Texas, but they don't so there's no sense in having it where no one will go.

Simple solution. Split the tournaments up. You're reducing the amount of cities that can put in bids by having this restriction. Think it would lead to a better rotation between east and west as well.

RE: I may be the only to feel this way but...
If the tournament started on Friday I wonder if more people would be inclined to take a three or four day weekend and buy tournament books for the whole event? If Im a fan of a mid pack team with a long shot chance Id be more inclined to only take what would likely be Friday off instead of Wed, Thurs, Fri. And at that point Im committed by being there and investing my money, so would likely stay and watch the other games too.

Yes! Having it in Texas is a joke, all of the TX schools bring on avg about 1000 people to a game. That is just crap. I think C-USA will be lucky to get 1000 people at the title game.

Putting the baseball tourney on the MS Gulf Coast every year has worked out well for similar reasons.

Actually, Little Rock or Memphis would be the most central neutral site. Do not agree with giving UAB a home court advantage every year. Bollocks!

This nails it. When the home team goes out in the first round, attendance will suck. The longer the home team advances, the bigger the crowd for them will be. That's true no matter where you play.

As to the crowd last night - Thursday night at 9 pm, first round game, you're just not going to get many people. There are not that many fans hardcore enough to take off work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for the tournament. The teams playing Wednesday are the teams which have had bad or disappointing seasons as well. It will get better day by day as teams advance and their fans decide to jump in.

Bottom line is that the conference is so large geographically that the only chance to have reasonably large crowds is to put the tournament in the middle somewhere.

UTEP has about as much fan support as we do, just not during this down year.

The tournament was in Birmingham three years and two of them UAB went out early. We're also not playing on our home court here.

Not that you care.

Speaking of that, where are all the La. Tech fans who bitched themselves blue in the face about playing in Birmingham? It's what, maybe a five hour drive for them? If it wasn't for the North Texas fans that game would have been slap empty.

Doesn't matter. Home court or not. Shouldn't be in a city that is home to one of our schools..... OR rotate it among the places that can accommodate the tournament on a year to year basis.

Neutral sites imply that our fan bases travel well. Our fan bases do not travel well. No one would go to Little Rock just as no one is attending the current tournament.

There is no perfect solution. Geographically, some team(s) will always have an advantage and some teams will get screwed. That's just the way it is.

A rotation between Birmingham and Nashville would be okay too IMO. Two of the more prominent programs in the conference located in or around those cities.

That was my point. It could be rotated among Birmingham, Nashville, Charlotte, Houston, etc.... No reason to park the daggone thing in ONE place.

Charlotte and Houston make no sense though. There are 2 schools within 5 hours of Houston and neither are great basketball schools

Shoot, Norfolk is still a few hours at least from Charlotte, as is Murfreesboro. I don't get why that would work either.

In order to draw decent crowds, the tournament needs to be co-located with a prominent program.

Pensacola could handle it, but the closest team is USM and we don't draw well. Next closest is UAB and it's probably a 5 hour drive. FIU and FAU suck at basketball (like we do) and even they're several hours away.

Mobile or Biloxi could work. Since attendance doesn't seem to matter at all to the conference "leadership" (see Frisco, TX), ANY of those previous locations would work.

UTEP has about as much fan support as we do, just not during this down year.
We have more fan support than ODU. Go back and check the last 20+ years of attendance records. UTEP usually outdraws ODU by 2-3 thousands fans per game. There were a couple of seasons ODU averaged around 3k while UTEP averaged 9k. Even during this down year of 20 losses and ODU with 24 wins we are about even in fan support.
