Well, it should have felt like a home game for USM then.

First, nice jab at the Niners.

Charlotte, is within driving distance of WKU, MT, ODU, Marshall & UAB. If Charlotte gets knocked out you can still expect these schools to send decent crowds. Especially in the semis and finals. You have so many fans that plan on going and go for the long weekend and a good many more that will get in the car and go if their team makes the semi's/finals if it's within driving distance. If none of these teams are in the finals, it's a bust if one is you've got a pretty good crowd, if two are then you would have a good championship atmosphere.

Also, the tourney needs to be in a place closest to the schools that fill their arenas. Marshall, ODU, Middle, WKU, UAB. If Charlotte became good again I'm sure their support would grow. Basically Charlotte or Nashville should be the main choices to hold the tourney.

If the West teams had all the attendance numbers keep it in Texas, but they don't so there's no sense in having it where no one will go.

Yes! Having it in Texas is a joke, all of the TX schools bring on avg about 1000 people to a game. That is just crap. I think C-USA will be lucky to get 1000 people at the title game.

UTEP has about as much fan support as we do, just not during this down year.
We have more fan support than ODU. Go back and check the last 20+ years of attendance records. UTEP usually outdraws ODU by 2-3 thousands fans per game. There were a couple of seasons ODU averaged around 3k while UTEP averaged 9k. Even during this down year of 20 losses and ODU with 24 wins we are about even in fan support.

Yep, UTEP should win the conference attendance contest in both major sports every year. Too bad your programs can't get their **** together.

Our arena only holds 8,500 and opened in 2002. When we were having our best years, the only unsold seats were at the club level, which is far away from the court and tickets are a lot more expensive. We have 7,319 seats, 862 upper club/priority seats and 16 luxury suites. The club level seats are nice, but aren't going to sell unless the game is big. Because of this our peak for an average game is about 7,800. We sell out the big games like when VCU, UVA, or VT are playing, but we also play our tune up games against teams like UMES and Mt. Saint Mary's over the Christmas break and it is empty. Unfortunately, nobody in CUSA has developed into a big fan draw as of yet, though WKU and MTSU are getting there (it would be nice to get them on a Saturday). Your capacity is 12,222 so your numbers are going to be higher in your better years because you can accomodate more people. We have had many games against VCU and VT that could have filled UTEP's arena. Any attendance numbers before 2002 you can throw out as we played in a high school gym. Our worst year in this building averaged 5,695 and there have only been 3 years under 6,000 (1st two years the building was open and in 2013-2014 coming off a 5-25 season with a new coach.

First, nice jab at the Niners.

Hard to take the smack serious when his school is 6-28 all-time against us 03-yawn

Miners get great crowds at home, but I counted 6 folks at their game last year in Birmingham. I went behind the UTEP bench and counted. This did not count the pep band and cheerleaders, of course.

MT and Western would have more than that if the tourney was in China.

Kind of unfair to expect the Eastern teams to travel to El Paso, when your own fans don't return the favor.

Honest mistake actually.

Saying Charlotte is within driving distance of WKU and UAB is like saying Hattiesburg is driving distance to Houston.

That's not "driving distance" for our schools. It just isn't.

That’s true. The problem we’ve been discussing is attendance and making the tournament look like people actually care about it. UTEP is the only current CUSA team that has demonstrated the ability to draw a crowd of 12k for a CUSA championship game.

El Paso and UTEP is one of the few universities in the conference that can pull in big numbers while enjoying a successful season. We have an arena that can host the woman’s team within walking distance of the Don Haskins Center. It’s ok with us wherever it’s held for now since we are experiencing some down years. Things might align for us in the next few years. We will hire a good coach to contend for the conference title and the new downtown arena should also be built around the same time. Look out by 2020-2021 you’ll have no option but to travel to El Paso if you want to watch your team live in the conference tournament.

Well, if so, I will probably be there to follow my team.

Would love to see some UTEP fans in Nashville if we are ever to lucky to get the tourney there.

Seems like they've got a bunch of grade schools there.

The approximate geographic center of Conference USA is just outside Newellton, Louisiana near the Mississippi River. The men can play at play at Newellton Elementary School while the women can play at Newellton Christian Academy (unless they don't have a gym, in which case they go to nearby Tensas High School).

There, solved all the problems, pay me.
