Grand Canyon University is 1 game away from the NCAA Tourney. GCU makes it to the WAC championship game.

It would be pretty awesome for them to make the dance in the first year of playoff eligibility.

No trolling. It was striking how empty the stands have been compared to other tourneys.

Dallas and Conn too far away, rotate it between Memphis and Cincy.
If not for injuries AAC is a 4 bid conference. 3 ranked teams, more than than the Big East.

I finally have to get this off my chest....I’m in love with that Brazilian volleyball player in your sig.
That's the Dominican Republic flag on her chest. So she's Dominican

The AAC isn't a "four bid" league. The AAC hired Wichita because it was a failing hoops league.

I guess if Duke and North Carolina joined the AAC next year, the AAC would have two more teams ranked and in the tourney. But it wouldn't be the AAC's doing, just Duke and UNC's.
If SMU and UCF don't have injuries, you're right, it might not be a 4 bid league. It may have been a 5 bid league. Conferences don't get teams in tournament, teams get themselves in the tournament. The AAC allowed with the schedule to have 4 teams finish with 12 or more wins in conference play and a 5th with 10 wins and a 6th with 9 wins. 3 of those 6 teams took care of business OOC. Those are going to be in the tourney easily. If Temple had been one of the good conference teams- they would have been in there easily as well.... Same with UCF and SMU.

I think it would be pretty easy to see the AAC eventually settle as a 4-5 bid league pretty regularly. Especially if the teams like Memphis and UConn recover to where they typically are. Cincy and Wichita aren't going anywhere- and Houston looks like they are setting up for a good run....

Yet, the Big East, is on track for 5+ bids in a 10 team league. Be happy with your ranked teams!

And the primary reason why that happened is Big East had 5 teams finishing at either 10-8 or 9-9. Not good teams- just beating each other pretty circularly. The seeds won't be great for anyone but the top 2 teams(Nova should get a 1 and Xavier is on the cut line between a 1/2 seed.). The other 4 should get in the 7-10 soup.

They need to put it in a 10k arena somewhere in the middle of the footprint. Maybe the Cintas Center would work.

Who needs ESPN or FOX?

No one has been a bigger critic of the American and some of its teams being too prideful to admit they shouldn't be playing conference tournaments in NBA arenas than me.

And if so, don't do it in a place like Orlando, do it in Memphis or New Orleans, which would draw tourist fans.

It should have been a 4-bid league regardless, Temple had the resume but didn't win the games they should have. Add in a potential bid stealer like Memphis and the AAC becomes a 5-bid league.

Weather aside, Philadelphia would have been a better choice. Putting the game in Wells Fargo puts it right on 95, and just up the road from the airport.

I don't totally agree about your conference/team comment. Conferences can provide an environment to grow a program -the Big East surely did that for its schools in the 1980s. And it can help maintain one as well. E.g., sure, as a blue blood, North Carolina has all the appeal it needs by itself to attract top recruits, but it also helps that recruits know they will be playing in the ACC vs Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, NC State, Virginia, etc.

My point was that the AAC, as created in 2013, clearly failed to develop into a top hoops league, as it was expected to do, so had to go out and hire a ringer in Wichita. The AAC did nothing to nurture or grow Wichita, Wichita was already established.

And really, this season wasn't so great even with them. They added a top 15 team, and still finished 7th in RPI, just like last year.

The AAC "should", and was expected to be, a consistent 4-bid league from its inception. But it has failed to be, and amazingly, likely won't be this year even with ringer/mercenary WSU added to the mix.

Something just isn't clicking there.

Yeah, and if the queen had balls she'd be king. Everyone has injuries, and every league has teams down in a given year. Any other excuses? You're the same guy that was proclaiming Temple a "near certain lock" after about 5 games this year, despite a spotty record in recent years. Your credibility went out the window for me right then and there. The anti BE and pro AAC bias has gotten old.

I would love that, but IMO that's also too far away for the vast majority of schools.

Sadly, there is no really good location, and even the best AAC fan bases aren't anywhere near the size needed to travel well.

I think Wichita's history with Tulsa, Memphis, Houston, and Cincinnati made them a no-brainer addition. It's because they don't have football they're perceived as a hired gun.
