Geez our administration has said nothing about firing him. The leaks are supposedly coming from outside . As far as the fans the majority have wanted him gone. You are a minority sir. A very very small minority. Look at the fans in the seats. It's bottom line sound business decision he leaves.

LMFAO, so it's a big 'accident' all this news is spewing out of Normal street? lol, only Memphis can take something so simple and screw it up so massively.

Just watched this video. Tubby Smith is my ****** hero. Listen to his story about what happened when he called home from college to tell his dad he was being mistreated. He summarized the problem with the young generations in America in about 2 sentences. And his comments about blocking out the noise around you in order to advance in life is about as golden as it gets.

Memphis deserves what's coming to them.

That's how I feel. That was one helluva ending. Well, it was if you're a Memphis fan.

Great game by both sides, in the end.

Penny seems like a great guy and maybe there is a chance he'll do well as a coach but the treatment of tubby is uncalled for and shows no class. The guy is bringing in about 20 win seasons in the AAC and people seem to care more about being a media darling than running a great program.

Did you even look at Memphis' schedule this year? There is a reason they have 20 wins and aren't sniffing tournaments. They beat 19 little sisters of the poor and Houston (who is a big sister of the poor).

By Penny-lite you mean junior high/middle school experienced as our next coach? After all, Penny has been very successful coaching hand-picked and recruited high school players/AAU elite to his high school, not having to develop anyone & winning with far superior talent. Surely that makes him well qualified to compete at the D-1 level where he has never coached & will NOT have the best talent on the floor.

Better hope Penny works out, because if in a couple of years he hasn’t, the job will be radioactive after the admin’s handling of Pastner/Tubbs/Penny. Which sucks and is out of place for a proud program like Memphis’.

Hiring Penny is a disaster waiting to happen. Penny will sign some local talent to get everyone enthused. Folks will buy season tickets. An immediate boost in attendance will result to celebrate and support the local basketball hero. As the season begins folks will continue to be enthused because Memphis will have scheduled it's typical-lately cupcake OOC schedule. As conference play begins, excuses will be made as losses accumulate that our new coach will have to be given at least 3 yrs to get the program back. And all the while, the team on the floor will not live up to expectations of routine NCAA tourney bids & deep runs. After 2-3 yrs, local high school elite will begin to see through the hype, begin to leave town for consistently strong programs, attendance will drop & the 2nd guessing will begin. Eventually Penny will go as Ollie but without the conference & nat'l titles in his pocket. And our local hero will have his star tarnished & fans divided over the causes. And that will leave our proud program with 15 yrs of mediocrity to overcome. Hey but we're a football school now!

I hope with all of my Tiger zeal I am 100% wrong, but just can't get over the fact we are talking about hiring a guy, yep a local basketball & city legend, that has NO college coaching experience to save our program.

This is all high risk/reward, and no one will dispute that.

The administration is simply betting on a few decent NCAA tournament teams with the elite talent that's about to be signed. It's a shot of morphine and pressure bandage for arterial spray.

Obviously, it's not a perfect solution or even a long-term fix, but certainly more than can be expected if Tubby completes his contract.

Here is a fun question. Name a school Tubby didn't get to the NCAA's by year 3?

Answer: None.

If you want to make a change make a change but don't give BS reasons for it.

Just say our expectations are to sign local kids and win a national championship.

Those two are mutually exclusive, but at least it's honest.

Sounds like the conspiracy theorists who say UCONN leaked their own minor NCAA violations in order to fire Ollie with just cause.
