Bad day for those with NIT hopes
Two regular season champs already down today from small conferences.

Now three (Vermont, Louisiana, Hampton).

ODU's chances went from pretty decent to falling off a cliff in the past 24 hours. WKU is probably more solid if they don't win today, but nobody with a projected NIT seed of 5 or worse should feel particularly safe right now.

If WKU was to lose today, that would take another spot, hard to see WKU left out of NIT at 36 rpi..... but that won’t matter if we show up and play our game today!

With an RPI of 76? Seems like they would be probable--very.

RE: Bad day for those with NIT hopes
I think it's funny that they doubled the NIT field and we still end up with less access to it. Greed has no limit. They need some "bowl eligible" rules for these tournaments.

They really need no more than top 8 of a conference can participate in conference tournament. And only the top 8 from any conference can participate in either post-season tournament. That won't fix it all, but it would keep a 10 conference seed from going on a tear and picking up 3-4 wins in a tournament to get above .500 and then getting an NIT or NCAA invite by winning the tournament or just being a P5 finalist. The tournaments are great, but winning 3-4 games in a row should not negate the work other teams put in for a whole season. I mean we have what 130 slots for the big post-season tourneys? No reason a 9th best team in even the ACC needs to get an invite to one of those.

The low seeds can play in a pay tournament if they get invited, and it would make those more interesting.

I agree, but the auto-bids are piling up and will send deserving teams to the third-tier tournaments (unless, like ODU, they're not participating in them).

This bracket prediction has ODU as one of the last three at-large teams in. That's presuming no more bid stealers.

NIT at large is reserved for power conferences if you haven’t noticed.

CUSA got three in when UAB went to the NCAAs. La Tech was an autobid, ODU was first four out and a 1 seed and UTEP got a bid as well.
