RE: 2018 Spring Practice
I'm still looking forward to the head coach interview that goes something like this...

Reporter: "Coach, what are your observations of Billy Bob Corncob at QB so far this spring?"

Head Coach: "Well, I think he sucks. He's terrible. Doesn't stand a chance at any playing time. Wish we had never given him a scholarship. I'm thinking of having his legs broken so we can re-classify him as a medical casualty to save us a scholarship. Guy's a moron too. Very low IQ."

Reporter: 04-jawdrop

I figure the most likely head coaches to do something like this would be your everyday curmudgeons such as Paul Johnson or Mike Leach. Or, maybe even this guy...

My impressions concur with those I've seen on this board today; i.e., DiNucci is clearly the frontrunner at this point.

RE: 2018 Spring Practice
If I recall correctly, we also didn't have MH firmly commit to a starting QB until LATE in the offseason. August or maybe even weeks leading up to the first game of the season.

I remember we all kept going stir crazy trying to figure out if it was going to be Schor or Connor Mitch. Most assumed that you don't bring in an SEC transfer just for him to be a back up.

I would guess we're not going to get our answer again from Houston until they walk out for the first offensive drive against NC State.

It was either the night before the game or the morning of. Can't remember which

Yep. He's just waiting to get inputs from us experts here on this board to weigh heavily in his decision making (as usual of course). Well, at least, that's what he told me.

03-thumbsup

(Note, the Ratke to left tackle and Marshall to nose tackle experiments are going well so far this spring I'm hearing)

That's what makes MH the best coach in the country. He listens to his message board. 04-cheers

WR Devin Floyd has converted to RB, per Ron Counts.

2018 Spring Practice
i just got a call from the ticket office inviting me to the Spring Game. i don’t recall this happening in previous years but i’m so glad they’re doing it. great idea. like many of you, i think we’re not even scratching the surface of how big that day could be. this is a really positive step in the right direction.

Agreed. Apparently they're expecting a smaller crowd this year (no national title to celebrate) and no Godwin tailgating due to the construction, but hopefully we get a decent turnout and can continue to build this event up.

Believe they Duke Club, Athletics) also know it is a challenge to get folks to come up to Hburg on consecutive weekends, since the Golf Classic event is the following Friday.

Looks like Cole Johnson had a good day at the scrimmage Saturday per the DNR and Coach Houston. Also good to see John Daka getting praise and working with first team.

Hope he's finally put on some weight. Its a long road from the high school sized, 210 lb DE he played at as a frosh.

Article on QB battle in the DNR. It sure seems as if Cole has embraced the competition and is having a strong spring. I get the feeling we will be much improved on the offensive line next year and will come out attacking. It will be interesting to see what receivers end up earning time.

Is it just me, or does this seem a little like history repeating itself?
We bring in a transfer guy, to many (myself included) that may be the front-runner. As a result, it forces the guy closest to the program to step his game up and become the starter.
That may not happen, but this story is sounding more and more like what happened with Schor. That turned out pretty well. :)
Regardless, I have 100% faith that Houston will put out the best guy to help us win. The more time passes, the better I feel about our QB position for this coming season.

If so, please keep the back up transfer QB away from moving household appliances.

Spring game coming up this weekend. Younger daughter and I are planning to go. Does anyone know, or recall from last years game, if the concession stands will be open? I seem to recall they were but am not 100% sure.

Looking forward to a nice turnout on Saturday, weather looks to be great!!
