They did not expect CPS to call their bluff, so they have been scrambling behind the scenes to make the west end site work. I expect Cranley will make an announcement about it pretty soon.

I stopped following. I thought West End idea was dead.

It sure appeared to be. Seems to me the public has some fatigue with all the political wrangling that's gone on. If fatigue turns to apathy it will turn out to be a costly circus for FC Cincinnati ownership and fans.

There are legitimate issues for all parties to resolve with the West End. But again, one has to question, where is MLS in all this? Shouldn't they have said, "No, never," regarding Oakley before putting that community and city/county governments through that fire drill? And it would appear Newport has always been the straw man in this negotiation.

Weren't there published reports yet again suggesting a franchise would be awarded in March? MLS isn't peforming like a "major" league in managing expectations or the process, or both.

It seems like the MLS gave them the old "you're in, just fix the stadium issue first" guarantee. Otherwise they would've just given it to Sacramento months ago.

We gave the Bengals a sweetheart deal to crap the bed year after year and yet we can't figure out a way to build a stadium that will almost certainly put us in the MLS.

I and others have speculated that the Oakley site was originally chosen because it was the only place they could quickly put together an official proposal for MLS. Remember how the process didn't start until after the election? As we've seen, the west end site wouldn't have come together that quickly. Another clue that the west end site is still the first choice is that we still don't have an answer on where the stadium will be. If the Lindners were serious about their ultimatum to CPS, they would have already went with Oakley. I agree that Newport was always just a straw man. They seem to be the most enthusiastic about building a stadium, but I haven't heard anything about a serious plan to put the stadium there instead.

Great point. To my way of thinking, in inflation adjusted dollars, this MLS stadium had to be much cheaper than either PBS or GABP based upon size and amenities? And will the footprint of land be sufficient if expansion is needed in 5 or 10 years? if not, this cycle may start again? Of course PBS may be available by then if the Bengals decide their act has lost its appeal here and move on to an NFL starved city willing to endure their mediocrity on the field.

The longer this goes on, the more Berding looks completely foolish.

Don't announce 3 potential sites to leverage them against one another when it's obvious there's only one place you want to be.

Maybe, but if they get the deal they want, where they want it, nobody will remember.

Either FCC said they would pay the full share of property tax to CPS, or CPS realized that the money they would get from FCC is way more than what they're getting now for land that's not exactly "desirable".

WOAH...Guess that's what happens when we have members of government with spines...

Quote:The team has offered a number of promises that include paying more than $25 million worth of school property taxes, spending $15 million on affordable housing in the West End, and developing a community benefits agreement with the West End neighborhood, Sittenfeld said.

...

According to Sittenfeld, the deal he and Councilman David Mann drafted with the team promises the following:

Paying $25 million in school property taxes in the West End
Spending $32 million with minority businesses
Spending $22 million on women-owned businesses
A guarantee that a private developer will bring $15 million affordable housing project to the West End
FC Cincinnati promises to spend $100,000 annually on West End organizations, including an entrepreneurs program and the Little Senators Youth Sports
The Cincinnati School Board, which rejected offers from FC Cincinnati to pay a discounted school property tax rate, said they were still in talks with the team as of Wednesday.

RE: FCC: the saga continues
I'm glad they could get this worked out. Another major league team in a growing sport, development in a long-neglected area, largely privately funded. Also, the West End is closer to my home.

The big loser is Clifton. I know businesses there have had a ton of business from FCC events. I'm hoping that once the new arena is built that UC can start hosting music acts and other events at their facility (like NKU but with better parking and nightlife). With US Bank blowing to the extent it does, I would think there is business to be had.

I think there will be opportunity for that after 5/3rd is redone.

You know they're essential to player safety.

In all seriousness, though, I would like to see UC introduce premium field seating experiences in that space as a potential to create revenue. Maybe like a party deck or something like that.
