WKU travels the approximately 1,800 miles to Los Angeles to take on Southern California on Monday night. USC won against UNC-Asheville 103-98 (2OT) in the first round in front of a "great" and "raucous" crowd (according to Bill Walton) of 1,600 fans.

How will WKU respond to the "body clock" game? Will the team come out flat in the (nearly) empty arena after playing in front of an electric environment at Diddle?

Of note: USC's primary big man - Chimezie Metu - has decided not to play to prevent injury before the NBA draft. Bennie Boatwright (power forward) is also out with a knee injury. That's good news for Justin Johnson and Dwight Coleby inside.

No line on this game yet. But give me the more motivated WKU to win 76-73.

looks like the 1st round of the NIT pretty much went all chalk. WKU and MTSU (and St Mary's) vs the P5

Would a worse time slot been available? ESPN must not like WKU fans. The BC game was one of only 2 not shown on something besides ESPN3 and now the USC game comes on a Monday night at 11:30 eastern time? That is a work night for most folks and how many people will be able to stay up that late beside WKU fans east of the Mississippi?
Wonder what factors they used to determine when to broadcast the games.

It’s a 8:30 tip for USC fans which is what they are concerned about I’m sure.

Here's how the time slot was selected:

ESPN producer: "Hey, USC, what time would you like your game to be on Monday?"
USC AD: "Hmmm well I have a dinner meeting that evening, so lets say 8:30 PST?"
ESPN producer: "Sounds good."



But looking at ESPN's schedule for Monday, the women's NCAA tournament is on ESPN2 all day and Monday night NBA basketball is on ESPN so those obviously have priority. On ESPNU, there's an NIT game at 7 and at 9 and what do ya know...they're both P5 vs P5 matchups (Stanford vs Oklahoma St and LSU vs Utah)

I think WKU wins in a blowout. USC is shorthanded and unmotivated and none of their fans care about the NIT.

I will stay up for game in Eastern Time zone, but I hope its worth it and we win, Tuesday will be rough!

And we would have had a normal game time.

Ashville was up 3 with 7 seconds to go in regulation.

This numb nut does not foul and instead let USC shoot and hit a 3 point shot.

Those of you that saw the end of the Syracuse game last night they had the exact same scenario but Jim Boeheim always fouls in that situation.

Syracuse won the game and advanced to the sweet 16 of the ncaa

I’ve never been a Bill Walton hater. He was at UCLA when I was a kid and UCLA was the biggest thing in college hoops. Then he was the hippie NBA player that won the championship at Portland playing pure team hoops. For all the distractions he provided politically the man had a love for the game of hoops that so many guys making money never had.

His injuries kept him from being one of the all time greats. As a lifelong Celtics fan I wondered what we’d get out of him late in his career. He really helped the Celts to their championship giving valuable backup minutes to Kevin McHale and Chief Robert Parrish. He also had a kid like joy to him that year.

I watched the last part of the USC vs Asheville game and the overtimes. I’m pretty sure dude was on some edibles. I’ve never had them, but have been told that when they kick in, they kick in hard. And it’s in Cali. It’s legal.

I don’t get mad at him when he’s shilling for the PAC12. That’s his squad. His group. Who he grew up with. He was all up in Asheville’s jock the other night hating on USC a little. A friend and I were texting and he noted it. I said, he’s a Bruin first, not a Trojan. No love lost between those cross town rivals.

Still don’t know if I’ll listen to him the whole broadcast. The thing that made me laugh most was when there was a bogus call that allowed USC to tie it up. Foul on the big guy for Asheville. First off Bill is gonna always side with the big. But what tickled me is he said “That is one of the top 8 most egregious calls in NIT history”.

Why 8? Usually a list is Top 3 or Top 5 or Top 10. I’ve never heard someone pick out Top 8. I think he wanted it to be more egregious than a Top 10 and settled on 8.

After seeing what our conference mates did in the second round I don’t have a good feeling about tonight.
