The way that news release sounds, with their touting the ABC method, FIU might have been involved in some technical capacity with the project. Unclear. This project will be their primary case study in their ABC program for the life of that program at FIU.
Always terrible when someone is injured or dies at the hands of someone else's negligence.

FIU's ABC program was not directly involved with the building of the bridge. For more information, read the article I posted on the previous page. The ABC technique is becoming increasingly common, especially in urban settings. What FIU was responsible for was to select the design and construction companies, as well as ensure proper inspections were put in place. There will be a lengthy investigation as to what went wrong here.
Regardless, at least six lives were lost because of this collapse. A very sad time for the FIU and Miami communities.

The collapse of the span referenced of Figg in that article was by my house. I lived in the neighborhood about a mile or 2 from where it fell when they were building the new Jordan bridge. I was home and when it hit it felt and sounded like some sort of bomb exploded. I genuinely thought someone was attacking the base across the river or something exploded over by Portsmouth Naval.
My entire home shook like crazy. I ran outside and the entire neighborhood was outside wondering wtf was going on.

I hate to hear that Figg was the oversight engineering company for the bridge. I've worked with them several times. Too early to say who is at fault, but with a catastrophic failure like this during construction, a large majority of the blame is going to fall on the oversight inspection.
Edit: I think I'm seeing that Figg actually did the designing and Bolton Perez and Associates was the inspection company. Either way, not good. Still can't get over the fact that they were doing stress testing and post-tensioning above live traffic...

that's the most inane aspect of this tragedy....there's nothing to say other than whoever signed off on that as best method are dipshites that will soon be out of a job ....
there are so many other questions to be addressed, but that one is the 'cherry'.....
