Just like our football national championship wasn't an ACC national championship this loss was a UVA loss, not one shared by the other 14 members.

I do agree SEC fans would share more embarrassment than ACC fans are likely sharing due to UVA's loss. Two reasons for that come to mind:

1) The ACC has other teams in the tournament that are still very strong contenders to win the national title. Duke and UNC have a great chance to put two ACC schools in the F4, and I wouldn't count out Syracuse either.

Whereas in football, since the playoffs start with the "Final 4", and only one time has any conference ever had more than one in the playoffs, if a conference loses its top team, well, it's out, and in basketball, the SEC almost never has more than one title contender, so if they lose that team they are also out.

2) Whereas the old 8-team basketball ACC was very tightly-knit and culturally-cohesive, the post-1992 expanded football ACC isn't, so it lacks the cultural identity that the SEC has, which is a prerequisite for caring about the conference as a whole.

The ACC is kind of like what the Big East was 10 years ago, unified less by natural cultural affinity, and more by the technical reality of being "Power" status. It's a catch-all for all power schools east of Texas that aren't in the B1G or SEC.

E.g., i won't dare to speak for Clemson like you can, but it has always seemed to me that Clemson's athletic culture is closer to the SEC than ACC. if somehow the ACC imploded, Clemson would seemlessly transition to the SEC, whereas for a North Carolina or Duke, that would be a major, and very undesirable, transition.

It is. Plus the fact that the ACC has gone out of it's way to screw Clemson whenever they got the chance.

3 years from now, people will remember Duke and UNC playing for the national championship, not a bunch of 1st round upsets.

It's been 30 what years and people still talk about UVA losing to Chaminade?

What are the odds that the same team can be the loser in the biggest upsets in the regular season and postseason?03-lmfao

Dude, I am a fan of the ACC money when it comes in. That is the conference my team is in. However, I don't say it is better than the other power conferences or cheer ACC. I have pointed out that I do think the ACC has improved in football by not missing the CFP. I don't root for some teams because they are ACC. I hated Pitt long before they came to the ACC. My line when I was young was the only thing better than a UNC plane crash, it landed on the Pitt bus. I remember in the 80's rooting for the USSR over UNC. Md was the other ACC school I could not cheer for, but they are no longer in the ACC. I still enjoy when the lose.

However, I am happy when the conference brings in the money, it helps my school. I mean I loved UNC lost to TAM. Look when ECU plays UNC, I will root for ECU. The rest of the season, I will hope ECU loses the rest of their games. Same way ECU fans feel about NCSU and UNC. ECU is probably the reason I follow the AAC as close as I do. You being an ECU fan should get this. 04-cheers

You’ve spent a lot of time going out of your time mocking the AAC lately....Maybe it’s more you’ve got a thing with the AAC? you probably spend more time keeping the AAC “in its place” lately than anyone else.

That's the first reference to that game that I've heard in about 30 years.

And fwiw, I’ve never been a NCSU hater. Dook and UNCheat (WAC Forest isn’t even a thought) sure. I am not a fan of the ACC at all though. Too many big East schools in there I dislike plus one from CUSA I really don’t like. Long night, take care wolf.

Don't celebrate just yet. It could still be Florida State and Syracuse for the National Title (oh, Clemson and Duke can still get there)

Yes, because I don’t root for conference rivals, UNC shot horribly from the field and lost. Good one.
