I don't see them starting a football team at this point. The time to do that was when they were considering it in the old Big East a number of years ago. While I don't think the NBE will drop down to the level of the MWC, they will be fighting with the Pac-12 for the 6th/7th best conference by the time realignment starts up again in 2024.
I hope everyone is tanned and rested when that starts cause we won't be getting much sleep....
For sure. Unlike most people, I think there's more than a slim chance that we will be the ones doing the picking and not the other way around.
If Texas and Oklahoma leave, then the B12 may end up disbanding. If that happens, the American will be in a great position.

Once again, Villanova carries the weight of that league as everybody else rides the coattails.
Nice effort, New Big East. t
Jealous much?
Jealous of what? Villanova? Absolutely.
All the other ankle biters? Nah.

If Texas and Oklahoma leave, I think the AAC will see two of its top programs offered spots in the Big 12 as replacements.. My first thoughts are that UCF and Houston will be those two schools, but USF and Cincinnati are both viable candidates as well. I don't see how losing two of its top programs to the the Big 12 would put the AAC in a great position.

The only good old school big east team is Villanova. Seton hall, DePaul, Marquette, st John's and providence were boo boo for the majority of our time in that conference. Georgetown was good then but times have changed.
One quick clarification. Marquette was a very good team during the period of time Cincy was in the league. They probably on average were better than Villanova. But yes Seton Hall, Providence, DePaul and St Johns were always terrible and I do think the league has a better reputation than it actually is.

Neither do I. However, what would happen if, God forbid, the B12 would then vote to disband outright ?

What could happen, Tex and Ok leave and the B12 take four from the AAC to get to 12. Who that would be, I have no clue, no one does. I'd say Memphis, Cincy, and the Florida twins.
Best case scenario for the AAC is for the B12 to suddenly implode with 6 teams (Texas and Tech, OK and Ok jr, plus two others) leaving, making reconstitution impossible and the AAC grabs a team or two and kicks the rest (Baylor for one) to CUSA. P6 becomes P5 again.

That would definitely be a best case scenario for the AAC, but I don't see it ever happening. I do see a time approaching when there will be four 16 member super conferences that make up the top division in college football. That's when the Iowa States, Oregon States, and the Vilanova's of the world will be forced to deal with life among the likes of us. We'll all be in for a period of realignment on steroids.
