I agee, but if Dom does come back he'll want assurances he'll be catching as he has aspirations of playing pro ball as a catcher. Are any of our incoming recruits natural first basemen?
I don't know what kind of leverage Dom is going to have, especially with a new regime. And I don't mean that as a dig at him. If he's like a 20-30th round pick and has an offer for 20k of signing bonus and forgoes a Rice degree for that (not saying he couldn't come back in future, but still), I think that'd be very, very, very shortsighted and any reasonable advisor would urge against it.
He's not going to be a very high draft pick after barely playing his junior year and not performing particularly well when he played. Especially given that he didn't hit very well last summer on the Cape.
He believe he already earned his degree but has a year of eligibility left.

FWIW I graduated in May and DiCaprio is not in the (graduation) program.
I guess he could be finishing over the summer.

No. From what I understand, one of the reasons should Dom decide to return is to get his degree. I he was not injured and replicated his 2017 season he would have almost assuredly turned pro. However, with the way things went this year he's likely not going to be drafted before the mid-teen rounds. He needs to get healthy (his swing is clearly not back yet and this is painfully obvious from anyone watching him) and prove to the scouts that he can be a competent defensive catcher (something he has really worked on since his Freshman season). The fact that he can get his degree in the process just adds more impetus to the decision.
I believe the only current baseball team players who graduated with their class were Chandler, Salinas and Dunlap (though Andrew got an extra year to do so).

Sorry! It was Andrew Dunlap I was thinking of. Never mind!

Gray had a much better year last year and wasn’t selected until the 13th round. I doubt Dom would go in the teens.

Dom was injured this year, and the scouts know that. Dom had a better year than Gray had last year, though both had terrific seasons.
