Who Will Be The First To Come After Stansbury?
Something I've been thinking about for a couple of weeks. Know it's going to happen but really hoping he stays put.
ADDVANTAGE: He is from this area and is close to family. Have heard that his wife
said that they love it here. Also he is very well liked and respected by everyone in the community. Can become a WKU icon if he stays and be a bb legend here. Has a chance to possibly rebuild our legacy of years past.
DISADDVANTAGES: Smaller market than he may be used to. Ncaa making it harder and harder to be invited to the dance. Finally, MONEY. We obviously can't compete here (wish Bill Gates was WKU alum). Even though he not a "poor" man financially does he feel like he needs more.
Hopefully he is not one of those that feels that money is the be all end all. I really hope that at his age that he is content here enough to want to settle down here and build his own legacy that will be remembered the way Ed Diddle's name has become synonymous with WKU. I personally feel that he could do it if he were to stay and keep coaching here. WKU has been looking for decades to find a good coach who will stay and carry us to the next level for years to come.
GO TOPPERS!!!!

I am hopeful that family ties to WKU and the state of Kentucky, along with his age, will keep him here until he retires. Also, Bowling Green is a sprawling metropolis compared to Starkville, and he was happy there for a long time. He can obviously recruit the talent needed to succeed here, and the conference is on the rise. I am probably just being optimistic with Topper Red glasses on, but until he is gone I am not going to worry about it.

Dan done it the right way but he did have a much bigger building than Stansbury. And it took him 4 years. Dan took over a team that had 2 DI recruits on it and a potential DI recruit.

Who is Pitt looking at I haven't seen any rumors for that job. Then there is Louisville right down the road, they aren't keeping Padgett but then again their probably getting ready to be hammered.

Pitt is currently setting its sights on the Buffalo coach, I believe. And Louisville is looking at the Xavier head coach.

Let's not turn this thread into something about us. But... JJ was left with a way worse situation to start than Rick. Look at me.

Harper didn't exactly leave the program in good shape. What as there, like 2 returning players or something crazy like that? Stans had to grab a ton of Grad transfers then this year we only had Johnson return. I don't know all the details of what JJ walked into, but Rick had to work hard to turn this around to where it is in just 2 years as well.

That's true. The situations could be quite comparable. JJ hasn't made any big splashes and is taking his sweet time building up. Rick has definitely accomplished more in his short time at WKU compared to JJ at ODU, make no mistake about it.

Funny, everyone talks about the Big East as part of the power structure in college basketball but the guy who lead a perennially strong program to a No. 1 seed in this year's tournament is talking with a school that might get its ass handed to it by the NCAA and would still be looking up at Duke, North Carolina and Virginia most seasons even in normal conditions.

The Big East is certainly the strongest non-football conference but make no mistake about it: It's still the P5 and then everybody else.

Spot the similarity in the two posts above made at the exact same time. First wins 2 rep points, because it's the off season (for most)

Yeah, I thought about that as well. That should set their egos aside for a few seconds at most. There is a clear food chain, and it seems like the only ones who don't see it are themselves. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

There's a number of our fan base who wish Rick wouldn't take the chances he's been taking on recruits. We went from having a top 10 recruiting class to losing 3 very good players in the months leading up to the season starting and then having 2 players having to sit for the first semester.. that led us to only having 7 scholly players for the first 2+ months of the season.

High risk / high reward, and hopefully we are able to get a few more recruits that we 'aren't supposed to get' in the years to come. I do love the group that we have now and am pretty excited about who is coming in next year. Crazy to think how many of those 1,2,3 point loss games we may have won with just one of those guys who didn't make it on the floor this year.

Stans had 1 returning player who showed up in Aug. after football, Justin....He should have gotten CUSA COY in a landslide, he has done a great job this season....He works at recruiting like no other too, I really hope he stays for a while but I am not counting on that happening...Anytime you think we are going to break through and become a power, our coach leaves and we start over again....

I asked a MSU friend if he thought Stans would jump at the first bigger school offer he got and leave WKU. He liked Stans and was upset when he got fired at MSU. He told me Stans is close to turning 60 and he thought it would take a big program that Stans felt he could build a winner at rather quickly. He thinks Stans is very happy where he is at and isn't actively looking for a new job. I hope you guys can keep him.

Maybe MT. Could double his salary if we offered him what we countered Kermit with. Of course the new coach isn't going to get that kind of money.

In all seriousness, he should just stay. I doubt he needs the money now. He could build it there with less pressure.

Highly unlikely. Maybe if she's got some fresh Duracells.
