There’s no reason to stay with Shockers other than loyalty, and Xavier can buy that out if they so choose to give Marshall a raise over the $3 million he makes right now."

A certain fanbase in the AAC thought they could get Gregg Marshall.

Not UConn fans. Did Memphis fans say that?

Oh they certainly did. Not this time around, but during the search that ultimately got them Tubby.

There were a bunch of Memphis fans making personnas and coming on Shockernet to troll bad back then. It was like there was just no question GGG was halfway to Memphis already. As fast as mods deleted them, more logged on.

Add FB and you get 100%, about 3 times as much.

And if you are waiting for college football to become irrelevant, you will probably have a long wait.

College football below the P5 level is already irrelevant. Were you in a coma from September 2017 to January 2018? Not saying it is fair, but it is true.

Besides... adding a ~$15M per annum expense to go from (let's say) $2.5M to $7.5M in media royalties is nincompoop math only a bureaucrat could love. Is there an AAC football program that isn't hemorrhaging money? The data is out there at the Equity in Athletics site, but I'm not wasting my time to look.

There is no way XU can afford Marshall--no way.

I agree that having an AAC football team will cause Wichita to hemorrhage lots of cash. That said, the costs of starting up a program from scratch and building/renovating a stadium go up almost exponentially every few years. So, if on the fence at all, Wichita should go for it while it is doable. What if for some reason the AAC eventually gets more inclusion with the power conferences and gets more big bowl money? Or, what if some teams get the Big 12 call up at some point. If Wichita had football, it could at least get a look from the Big 12 if Kansas ever bolted for the Big Ten. Without it, there is no hope there.

That said, in all likelihood the "power" club is never expanding and a diminished Big 12 is only so appealing, so I do agree that it is likely a waste of money without future guarantees.

I don't think it's worth it for Wichita to add football. Not in this league. I just corrected the statement that there is NO reward. Sure there is. For those already here.

I watched a PBS documentary last night about the 1970 Shockers and after watching that I was ready to throw a helmet back on and play for the Shockers and I'm almost 50 years old (no eligibility left either).

Bring it back.

RE: Question for my Shocker Friends....
It is crazy to know that only the first three games on the below schedule were played with the full team...then the Wichita State plane crashed heading to the game at Utah State.

The thing that makes Wichita different than most schools who consider restarting football is this particular history. Starting up football again would honor all of the young men who lost their lives in the crash and it also would bind several generations of Wichitans together through this shared history of the crash, the subsequent decision to end the program due to money, and the restarting of the program in a new conference in a new era. You would be one of America's greatest comeback stories if you ever fired up football again.

Which is why it would have to be started right, and why it never will.

Good points. I remain hopeful that it could still happen during my lifetime. My best friend, was a very big supporter of bringing back Shocker football. He always said he wanted to see Shocker football again before he died. Unfortunately it didn't happen for him.

RE: Question for my Shocker Friends....
This will probably be discussed as long as Cessna Stadium is in place. But imo WSU should just keep it on the "maybe someday" discussion board.

Steps:
1. Independent at first in FB with schedules that include the western AAC except maybe Navy.
2. Schedule old MVC rivals if possible.
3. Stadium upgrades in scoreboard, concessions, restrooms and suites.

Parcells is a great asset to have because of his extensive list of contacts, from possible coaches to trainers, managers, etc. He could help fast track the restart as a football "consultant", not coach.

But in all honesty, you guys should just sit back and enjoy the ride during these first few years in the league in everything but football and get adjusted to the travel and new rivals in the sports you already play.
