He has the kind of face and facial expressions that make you want to kick him in the face. That means he'll probably be a good coach.

I don't think McDevitt was cocky at all. He was very complimentary of the league, and was especially complimentary of the CUSA programs and coaches at Marshall, ODU and WKU.

BTW, I really liked McDevitt's philosophy of recruiting "versatile" players. He talked extensively about recruiting "versatile players that can do more than more thing". This is so true. I believe this has been exactly LA Tech's problem the last 2 years under Konkol. We've ended up with a bunch of players that can only do one thing (e.g., Boykins can shoot the 3, but can't do anything else. White was tall in the middle, but couldn't do anything else. Our guards could handle the ball and drive to the basket, but they couldn't shoot from the outside. etc....)

Oh....side note to the "MT" faithful....in the press conference video, your school prez repeatedly referred to your school as "Middle Tennessee STATE University" and MTSU. Not once, but several times. Just saying.....you may want to send him a memo. 07-coffee3

That drives me nuts, too.

It's a long standing problem. He is a long standing problem -frankly. I have actually written about this before that we are perpetuating the problem. The university brands itself as one thing and the athletics brands itself as another. If you know anything about branding I don't have to tell you the problem with having a split brand.

I have met with him several times on this. His argument is that just as many people support the name as those that want it changed. And to a degree that's true but the reasoning those people often give lacks rationale thought (like I just like it better or it's been that way for so long why change it).

It's a fight I've been fighting since as long as McPhee has been President. And unfortunately, he's been President far too long.

You aren't pointing out anything we didn't notice or aren't already aware of.

McDevitt got it right repeatedly...

Cocky.... Seemed like a pretty cookie cutter press conference. To me he seemed kind of a boring personality. Maybe because he hadn't let his guard down yet.

And seriously did he compare the emotions of having a kid to getting a new job. Those are not even the same.

I told my wife about Nick and his wife having their child Thursday and him being in the Boro by Friday. She was shocked until I told her he had $750000 reasons this year.

She told me she would say “I got this ... I can push this one out myself...go to the boro”

Easily fooled me thinks. You have to see between the cookie cutter responses to see what's really behind it. No one is like they are in real life like they are in a press conference, so you have to pick up on the other visual and audible cues you get. I picked up on some arrogance there. How much I don't know yet. Of course all people who want to lead programs like this require a degree of arrogance to get there. Again, Kermit had just cracked the code on how to be as authentic in front of the camera as he was in real life. Not an easy skill to master, so I'm willing to cut some slack, but if he turns out like wkcc's football coach...come back here to revisit this thread I will.

Fine line between the confidence we want in our coach and the 'cockiness' of youth, that hasn't always been earned yet.

Our Boy Wonder found that out. I believe he aged 5 years from the start of the season to the end.

Most of us were/are just as pissed at Todd Stewart for going in a 180 degree switch from what had been successful here. Ours was not a rebuild situation.

I've watched these boy wonders come in and tbh, they have been in the game their entire lives. Played it, grad assisted, assisted and move on to head coaching. Been successful at every level.

Where your guy is different he HAS been a head coach. Junior up here had not been and got kicked in the nuts by it. One thing these kids have is energy.

I could tell our guy was lost a few games in. I thought it after the first game. But then folks were saying "he's hiding the playbook against fcs Eastern" and I bought it.

Guess what. He must have hid the playbook the rest of the year too.

Might be for some but what you see from Dan in press conferences, even his introductory, is just him. He is no different just talking to him. Dan has no idea what "Coach Speak" is. He will tell you flat out what you want to know each time.

I could see that. Didn't intend to speak in absolutes. Instead of no one I was thinking most folk.

Ha, maybe not as much as you think....Either way he has a knack for relating to young kids and is a closer on the recruiting trail, so he's doing something right....

Your new coach does remind me of our guy Sanford, but yes he does at least have experience being the Head coach even if at a small university in Big South....

Yeah, but Dan has some years on our guy. Hell, Kermit could be a spit-fire in his early years.

Like all of us, we learn with age. Older and wiser.

Plus, Dan got a big dose of reality when he was younger (the crash). That may have humbled him for life.
