Memphis had no fans in here prior to a week ago so how would you know anything about another team's fandom?

did George Mason become a 'power house' in 2006?

This .... Getting to the Final Four as a mid-major doesn't define becoming a powerhouse .. it's what happens AFTER you get to your first one that really defines it. If they don't capitalize on it ... they will just fall right back down. Step one will be building on it and not allowing their coach to get poached and lose all their incoming recruits.

It’s funny because I haven’t noticed a Memphis soul in here prior to last week.

Strange.

It's the combination of being a really good team, that got a nice draw and caught a few breaks. Their day 1 game winner took an 80% free throw shooter missing the front end to set up. The difference between an amazing run and going home early can be that small (see Cincinnati and Houston).... see Michigan that could have been out day 3 and now could play for the title.

As soon as Porter Wagner goes back to country music, Loyola will fade away...

it's kinda like Butler...Okay, you did it. Now go do it again...and Butler did. If Loyola is able to then I'll be REALLY impressed.

RE: New National Powerhouse???
As bad as the Bearcat collapse was, if Martin doesn't hit that highly contested corner 3 or the ref doesn't call that ridiculous dribble hand off charge...UC holds on and could certainly be playing this Saturday. If Houston bangs 2 free throws or Michigan doesn't hit that incredible shot they could be doing the same. Duke was about a milimeter from winning in regulation last night. The margins can be tiny in March. Among the final four teams, only Villanova hasn't really needed a few big breaks to make the final four.

if Cincy got past Nevada, their D would have taken care of Loyola and KSU.

Yup Butler translated 2 deep runs into an eventual conference move that made staying in the "power level" easier.

WSU took a final four, followed it up with an undefeated season (a 1 seed), then another Sweet 16 and finally into another conference that makes it easier to stay relevant.

That's my feeling as well. Nevada played a weird style with a bunch of long scoring wings and had dudes that buried difficult shots. That said, when UC stuck to the gameplan they were great for 28 minutes... Nevada turned it into pick up basketball for the last 12 because UC lost focus... It was frustrating.

I don't think the other teams had the same ability to get UC out of their game and UC defense would have made it really difficult for those teams to run their stuff.

Of course it doesn't matter because UC had the worst collapse in tournament history against Nevada and fans are going to think about what might have been for a long long time.

That's the worst. I still wonder what would have happened if they called the "jump ball" correctly vs Louisville in the Final Four in 2013. Or if Van Vleet's last minute shot falls against UK in 2014 ... ugh. ...

I looked at their history. Man, they fell off the map after 1968. If their new coach can recruit Chicago then they could be as strong as any BE school. The AAC needs to scoop up all of these mid-major powerhouses.

Good grief. I remember that. That still bothers me. I really wanted the Tigers to win. That was their year too. Joey Dorsey was a bad man.

Same thing with San Francisco. They were THEE mid major power for about 30 years and then they self-imposed a death penalty after some major shenanigans and they have been, well, not the same suffice it to say....

Don't own a TV. I won't even allow one into my house. No use for that eyeless and soulless instrument.
