You waive all fees to add a school like Villanova or Georgetown until 5 or so years ago, not the Zags. They're not even on the level of Xavier, regardless of a farther best advancement.

That is your opinion. The people out here in the west have a very different opinion. And as they say about taking a QB in the first round of the NFL draft, "it only takes one."

As an MWC alumni, and knowing many MWC alumni, the opinion is very much "sign the Zags up ... yesterday! I don't care if we pay too much." We very much see this as our Wichita State opportunity.

It's my opinion but it's also closer to fact. They've come a long way but aren't worth falling over yourself for. They're not the school that pushes the MWC over the top, they already have a solid, if not underachieving, lineup. They wouldn't have a 20-year streak if they played a real lineup and not a group of tomato cans. They'd have fewer off nights and a much tougher road to the auto-bid in the conference tournament if they had spent, say, the last 10 years in the MWC.

An update from Zeigler.

Talks have advanced to what to do about Men's soccer. Seems the WAC will temporarily get another school, as the MWC needs another year or two to launch the sport.

Interesting....I figured Gonzaga was staying in the WCC after the concessions for them were made a couple days ago. Gonzaga got everything they wanted and their still saying "we will do what's best for Gonzaga". Wow. This is telling me the Zags want out. I could be wrong and they are just waiting for another WCC concession?

Lucky WAC then as they have 3 MWC schools already. 5 MWC schools play soccer:
UNLV: WAC
Air Force: WAC
San Jose St: WAC
San Diego St: PAC
New Mexico: CUSA
Gonzaga?

RE: WCC approves changes to conference, tournament schedules
WAC soccer is only temporary. Probably just 1 or at most 2 years for the P12 to get a replacement for SDSU and the MWC to get all the league mechanics together. SJSU, AF, UNLV, and GU will all exit the WAC together, along with UNM from CUSA and SDSU from the P12.

The MWC schools are on 2 year extending contracts. The next cycle is 2018-20. The most likely school to move into the Pac-12 void SDSU would leave is Sac State who are an affiliate with the Big West. The WAC got into a bloated state when they picked up the remnants of the MPSF (SJSU, AF, UNLV, HBU) along with new WAC schools. So even when those schools leave, the WAC would be fine with 6-7 of their own (UMKC, SU, GCU, UVU, UT-RGV, CBU plus CSUB for 2 more years) and affiliates HBU and UIW. No doubt the WAC wants to spin off some men's soccer schools anyway.

Right. SJSU would have crawled on broken glass to get out of the WAC, where football was going away, and into the MWC. Gonzaga should have more leverage. If the MWC is treating Gonzaga like SJSU, then IMO they don't value Gonzaga enough.

It's like taking a new job. If you really really need that job (SJSU) then you take the terms the company offers and go to work. But if you already have a good-enough job and you're just looking to find something that is hopefully better (Gonzaga), then you only move if the people at the new job really want you and show it (with salary, perks, job status, whatever); in that situation you don't switch to a new job where the people really don't care much whether you join them or not.

Gonzaga is not SJSU but they aren't Villanova either. You don't walk Hell over high water to add them. While the MWC doesn't have any leverage, neither does Gonzaga. They're a school that could add something to the conference but aren't a traditional Blue Blood either

The MW’s aspiration is to usurp the AAC as the premiere non-TPC. That makes adding Gonzaga a necessity.

Definitely, though with the AAC down, the MWC should already be equal.

Utah/BYU was the core of the MWC and they left.

It's still killing them.

In basketball, UNLV is the biggest program and there's at least two supporting casts. Granted, Utah and BYU were big losses but not earth shattering.

I just do not see this would help Gonzaga out at all. Adding Gonzaga could help boast the MWC's next tv deal. ESPN could outbid CBS-S for the rights to the MWC.

RE: WCC approves changes to conference, tournament schedules
It doesn't. They'd have to do something like go against their principles and add an at-large caliber team like NMSU despite the fact they're a public school. That's how you improve the league, not by adding Seattle or making minor tweeks. You add SU because they're an institutional fit.

Either that or come out the kiddie pool and go to the big pool and start swimming to the deep end. There's no sharks but maybe they're afraid they'll drown. Tough poop but Gonzaga won't get the full respect or both at-large and SOS help it needs until it moves up.

I can see it both ways, just don't say you didn't have your chance Mark Few and continue to blame schools that can't compete nationally even if they really wanted to.

I forgot that the WCC ESPN deals end in the 2019 school year. We may see something about them staying in the WCC regarding the TV contract.

David,
I don't think we want ESPN...I certainly don't.

Zags got what they wanted. They only have to play last year's two worst teams one time each.
