Sounds like the Heart of Dallas Bowl Might Be Looking For New Conference Ties
Ive always felt this was a bowl we should target in the next bowl cycle. Sounds like they would be interested in listening.

The Heart of Dallas Bowl still has a pulse, but it no longer has taxpayer dollars to keep it alive.

The City Council's Quality of Life, Arts and Culture Committee on Monday rejected paying $800,000 to ESPN over two years to keep the sparsely attended football game alive. Committee members said they're not totally turning down the game, which is one of the few football games held every year at the 92,000-capacity Cotton Bowl Stadium. But the council members want a better deal with the sports network.

"This bowl game is not good for the city of Dallas in its current form," said council member Mark Clayton, who previously worked in the sports marketing industry.

Then there is this---

Council members had also invited VisitDallas, the convention and visitors bureau, to ask them why they're not paying for the game. VisitDallas officials replied that the Heart of Dallas Bowl doesn't draw enough hotel stays to justify spending money on it.

Dump the Frisco Bowl and add Heart of Dallas. Try to get a deal with the B12?

Exactly. That said, sounds like this might be a bowl that could potentially fold or move elsewhere. In other words---Frisco may become a "right sized" replacement for the game---probably featuring the SB vs CUSA.

Frankly, I think they would do better with a high level AAC team and upgraded P5 opponent. The AAC would probably agree to an uneven payout. Something like 2.5-3 million for the P5 and 1-1.5 million for the AAC team. Those kind of payout numbers probably make the opponent a #3-#5 P5 selection. I think an AAC champ or runner up would travel well to that kind of game.

People want to feel like the bowls mean something. Even 6-6 Sunbelt, MAC, and c-usa teams get bowl. Who wants to spend a ton for that?

Meh, I wouldn't mind one called the "Tidy Toilet Bowl" with USF being given a permanent spot in it, regardless of record.

We can certainly create a "Dirty Diaper Bowl" for UCF, at least your bowl destination will be clear every year.

Agreeing to an uneven payout is admitting we are inferior, and absolutely destroys the P6 campaign. There is no way Aresco agrees to that.

Hey, that's not nice!

Why do you have to do a fellow Bucs fan (since 1982) like that ?

Take it back, let's be buds, and there will be some +3 in it for you (And I'll direct you to a site that's got old Bucs games on it too....)

The ACC used to do it---cant remember which bowl. I think it was maybe the Capital One or the Gator--the point is there used to be a bowl where one power conference took a lower payout than the other (lol...so Aresco would have cover as there is some history of P5's doing it). Frankly, I think we will (and should) do whatever is necessary to obtain a guaranteed "signature" bowl for the conference. A hallmark of any power conference is a "signature" or "anchor" bowl that serves as the "reward" for winning the conference.

I questioned the logic of that too. Good point. +2

If I'm remembering correctly it was the Gator and the ACC took a bigger cut than the Big East. I remember thinking then that it was not cool.

Outside of the playoffs, bowl game travel is pretty much over if it's over a 4-6 hour drive. Just not worth it with 4k production on TV.

Actually, I think your correct. I knew there was some arrangement like that in the past---but I couldnt remember the exact details.

Bowl has the worst date possible for out-of-area teams (Dec 26th...which means many that want to attend have to travel on Christmas Day), plus weather can and is COLD in Dallas....and playing in a huge 92,000 seat old stadium....that just means terrible environment most years.

Last year's game between two P5 teams (Utah vs WVU) drew an announced crowd of 20,000 but actual gate crowd was just over 9,000...(looks pathetic in a 92,000 seat stadium).
