Duke is the one team I thought could beat Villanova, too bad they had to gag then let the officials take it from them.

Villanova head and shoulders above everyone. Just took until the tournament to get into full form. Other teams were distractors. Reminds me of ‘05 North Carolina where Illinois was the seasonlong distraction.

Sister Jean took a NCAA/NIT-less 33 year drought and turned it into a Final Four. She is perhaps the most impactful sports figure ever. Perhaps you trashing her is what caused Houston to switch places with Michigan in the bracket.

Wrong, I knew Villanova was the best team headed into the tournament. I just hoped someone would pick them off. They had one serious challenge and that was it.

I've got respect for her, I'm just a little lost as to why the team suddenly did so well. Was she not praying over the last 30 years? Did she fall out of favor or something?

Good to see their run though.

There were no unbeatable teams this season. Villanova was just the best of them.

All season, it seemed someone would look great, if not unstoppable, only to see them humbled. At one point, it was Duke, then 'Nova, then Virginia...heck, I was almost convinced Kentucky finally figured it out in the SEC tournament, and they would be the ones bringing it home.

Villanova earned it this tournament, too. Michigan was exactly the kind of team Villanova should have faced in this final, because Michigan finally hit its stride and ran away with things until last night. I mean, really, last night was the first time Michigan lost since 2/6...14-game streak. Best of the Big Ten (and they were, since they beat the top of the conference all along the way in that 14-game run), and the best of their side of the bracket.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda all one wants about the Duke's, UNC's, UVA's, Cincy's, Kentucky's, and Purdue's...if anyone watched games this season, you knew nobody was really good for anything. But 'Nova was.

It was the first time they lost in a month but Michigan didn't look great during the NCAA Tournament.

Nobody did, with the exception of Villanova and Loyola. And Michigan beat one of those.

Loyola looked great for Loyola. They were just clutch and had an easy bracket.

It's about coaching and matchups, genius.

They probably wouldn't win but they had the best shot of anyone. Purdue would have been formidable had they stayed healthy. No one on the other side of the bracket had a shot except maybe Houston, Cincinnati, Arizona or UNC, none of which advanced past the first weekend.

Duke was poor on defense and poor against teams that could run an NBA-style 4- and 5-out offense, which is why they lost to St. John's and lost to Poor Man's Nova in the tourney. Having K on the sidelines isn't going to change the fact that Duke would get tooled up by this Nova team.

Yeah, I'd take Nova by 10, give or take. But I have confidence Coach K would have come up with a gameplan to slow Villanova down if given a full week as opposed to 2 days.

We can speculate until the cows come home. I think it's obvious that coach K is the best coach since Wooden, but i'll go to my grave thinking he has two national titles - 2010 and 2015 - because someone else did the dirty work of beating Kentucky teams that would have been too strong in a title game for his Duke teams those years.

But as in those cases, all we have this year is what actually happened - unless 3 years from now we find out Villanova was paying pole-dancers to entertain recruits, and the title gets "stripped". 07-coffee3

Yeah, well he also lost some national titles because his teams were upset. 1986, 1999 and 2002 were really great teams. Among really great programs, these things even out over time, except Kansas for some reason. Heck, Kansas was really lucky to win two of the national title games they won, either by having an overachiever or being at the right end of a collapse.

IU was a huge underdog under Mike Davis (very underrated coach btw) in 2002.
