It's been 6573 days ...
or 939 weeks ...
or 18 years minus 1 day ...
Since the B1G won a hoops basketball title. Last time that happened, on April 3, 2000, nobody had ever heard of I-pods, I-pads, I-phones, Facebook, or Twitter, and you could have watched the game from an office in one of the Twin Towers after catching President Bill Clinton's press conference. Lebron James was a 6'3" freshman in high school, and somewhere on the Michigan campus, Tom Brady was getting the bad news that his draft stock placed him around the fifth round, so it would probably be a good idea to make sure he finished up his class work and got his degree.
Will the streak end tonight?

Only thing to me is Nova is such the favorite- that this is when the underdog always seems to show up and often times win.
Think I saw from CBS, ESPN, and USA today- 39/40 folks picked Nova to win.

oh, and I think the crazy thing.... heard this morning.....
last 70 years Michigan championships- since the 1948 Michigan football title....
football- split one in 1997
basketball- 1989
so 1.5 titles in 70 years for Michigan in the 2 prime sports.

Which frankly mystifies me. In the past month, this Michigan team has handled Purdue and Michigan State, crushed a Texas A/M team that handily beat defending champ North Carolina, and an FSU team that beat #1 seed Xavier. They are battle-tested B1G tournament and NCAA regional champs.
I see this as a 50/50 game, expect it to go down to the wire.

Michigan has beaten those who have either been shorter per position, or walked the ball up the floor. The teams that pushed them, pressed them and made them run the whole game. That's where the depth will come into it. Wagner gets gassed and then he starts reaching in. If he stays fresh he stays out of foul trouble. The only thing that makes this close is if Michigan is as hot beyond the arc as they were against A&M. I don't see a double digit win by Nova but 7 or 8 points is probably going to be about right.

And to think of how many BIG teams have played in the national title game and not won it since 2000 is crazy. Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. That's insane not any of these teams got it done! Oh well, we shall see if tonight's the night.

Yes, as you note the B1G has not faltered as a Power conference, they've been a constant presence in the Final 4 and title game.

Well I was pretty much right about the style of play, the tired Wagner, and the depth. I just thought Michigan would shoot the 3's a bit better. So I was wrong about 7 or 8 points being the margin. But clearly the more complete team won. Congrats to 'Nova.

Four - Oregon (39), Stanford (42), Cal (59), and Arizona (97).
Another weird thing: Among all the teams in the Big 8, Big 12, and SWC, the only title winners are Kansas with 3 and Oklahoma State with 2. The only school from Texas ever to win the title is Texas Western.
Hey, Villanova winning kept the SEC ahead of the B1G.

In the last 20 or so years the SEC has done alright in at least a couple of schools besides Kentucky have won it. Florida of course taking 2 and Arkansas taking one when Nolan was still the coach.

Yes, but it is funny that when conference titles come to mind, we all think about how top-heavy the PAC is with UCLA. But truth is, everyone is top-heavy, and the PAC has actually had the most different schools win it.
Number of schools from each conference that have won the title (affiliation at time of title):
PAC ....... 5
B1G ....... 4
ACC ....... 4
Big East ... 4*
SEC ........ 3
B8/12/SW ... 2
* Was 5, until Louisville 2013 was stripped.

Thought of this song when I saw the title of this thread...
In all seriousness, kudos to Michigan for advancing to the NCAAT title game. That being said, the B10 doesn't have many great basketball programs. That's probably why Kansas will be in the conference in the next few years.

Now 6574 days. It was exactly 18 years ago today that Michigan State defeated Florida to win the 2000 title.
That was a dominant tournament performance, IIRC, MSU crushed everyone they played.

this is where mind plays tricks...
Valpo 27
Utah 12
Syr 17
Iowa St 11
Wisconsin 12
Florida 13
those were MSU's MOV's in the tourney. Avg MOV for the tourney was only 15.33. Take out rd 1, and it's 13 points. Nova on the other hand for entire tourney- 17.67, and take out rd 1, it's 16 points.
