I don’t know what the AG (who is an idiot) could do if language in the bill can let the treasurer hold it up.

How about suing in federal court and showing a federal judge the original law that the state treasurer refused to acknowledge and the re-write??? Somehow, the original law needs to be shown in court.

I don’t think a federal court would have jurisdiction. This is a state matter. The original bill doesn’t matter, only the one that was passed and signed into law.
I acknowledge I haven’t read the bill that was signed so I don’t know what power the treasurer is given in the matter.
The idea of my tax money propping up a mismanaged private college doesn’t sit well with me, but that’s another story.

Just so you completely understand how state money works, you do realize that $25milliom of our tax dollars, that was earmarked for education, went into building the Montgomery White Water park. Are you ok with your money being spent on that???

I’m not familiar with that project but I wouldn’t support education money being diverted for it.

You may not be in favor of it, but it happened. At least the BSC money was a loan, to be paid back or the state gets the property. It’s a no lose situation for the state and your money. That is if the the property isn’t already promised to someone else first.

I thinl the University of Alabama has designs on that property, but I can't prove it. . I don't agree with Young Boozer for sure and I don't like former Governor Riley either!!!

If the money isn’t paid back it’s a lose situation for the state.
I don’t know what the University of Alabama would do with the property. I think it might make a satellite campus for UAB but I don’t know if it would fit their needs.
The whole state could use better leadership than Memaw (who made a mess when she was Treasurer) but I don’t see it happening in my lifetime.

NEC now have to react and add New Haven, Bentley, Southern New Hampshire and Mercyhurst.

For those keeping up, the judge threw out the lawsuit by BSC towards the state treasurer. The college is currently determining what the next step is. The problem with the law passed that would have given BSC the loan it needs to survive, it stats the treasurer “MAY” issue the loan instead of “SHALL” grant the loan, which gives the treasurer the right to deny, doesn’t matter if the school qualifies per the law or not. So possibly a run to the state Supreme Court is next. But right now, it’s not looking good for BSC after this semester.

I don’t know the local politics of it, but perhaps it was written that way on purpose? To look like the people voting were for it when they really weren’t and give the guy who was against it anyway the freedom to decide?
Not being a conspiracy theorist, but sometimes people write bills for them to ultimately fail or pass just for showmanship.
Just something that came to mind.
But if the entire existence of the institution hinges on public money saving it, their situation was indeed dire.

That is exactly what it is becoming to look like.

USA…Have you talked to your son lately? What’s his mood and that of his teammates and fellow students?

When I ask him he says he’s not worried about it. The students have dealt with this for a year now, it quickly just becomes part of life for them. The parents are the ones that are doing the worrying. Ultimately the kids are at the, what can we do and why worry about it, what’s going to happen is going to happen.

They will all be fine. Schools flock to recruit students of closing colleges, make the process virtually seem less and many guarantee students they will not have to pay any more at the new school.
I was at a school that closed, many years ago.

Different than I would have expected but glad they are keeping a stiff upper lip. Good luck to your son. Hopefully they can at least finish the year.
Must be tough for the basketball team, practicing for a season that may not happen.

Thanks for asking about him. I would imagine we would finish fall sports, but I’ve also thought about the winter sports that begins play over the next month. There hasn’t been anything said about it since they still haven’t made an official decision on the schools future.
