The Future Of Summit League
I was looking at the expansion articles for the Summit League, they could become an FCS conference if they play their cards right. Here is what I think should happen as pairs after PUFW leaves.

Northern Colorado/Fort Hays State
North Dakota/North Dakota State
South Dakota/South Dakota State
Omaha/Upper Iowa
Washburn/UMKC
Central Oklahoma/Oral Roberts
Lindenwood/Western Illinois
Minn.-Duluth/Minn. State-Makato

13/16 is the lineup. If Upper Iowa will not be able to move up? It would be 12/15. The only non-football school in the plains state besides Drury is Montana State-Billings.

RE: The Future Of Summit League
I just don't see a willingness to take a mass influx of D2 schools just to get football in house. Adding Northern Colorado and then offering football affiliate memberships to the other 6 MVFC schools get you football and the league is good top to bottom.

Let's be realistic here. The Summit's modus operandi is "FBS or bust."

Oh my.

Why on Earth would any of NDSU/SDSU/UND/USD want that? That's worse than the old D2 NCC. Upper Iowa and Fort Hays State?????

No, no, no... You have to stop thinking that everyone wants anything to do with D2 schools and you have to stop thinking D2 schools want anything to do with D1. Just please stop.

I like DavidSt posts because I get to find out about the existence of so many colleges. Who knew Upper Iowa was a real thing?

RE: The Future Of Summit League
Unless the MVC intends to bring in football schools from the OVC and then spurn the Dakota schools there isn't a real need for Summit football.

What the Summit might want to ponder is if some of the WAC schools could improve their basketball brand and potentially inherit their tournament credits

Nothing screams potential D1 moveup like Upper Iowa in a town of 1,338 with an enrollment of 900.

If I’m in the Summit, I want:

Fort Wayne to Horizon
W Illinois to OVC
Oral Roberts to WAC

Add N Colorado
Add UMKC

Compact geography, easy travel partners, keeps league Dakota/Sioux Falls-centric, and NCAA payouts distributed a nation-best 8 ways.

Travel partners:
UNC/Denver (1)
UND/NDSU (1:15)
USD/SDSU (1:30)
UNO/UMKC (2:45)

A pair of Minnesota schools who play both football and hockey might be fun but the Dakotas don't want it

The Future Of Summit League
One thing I will give David credit for is that he knows about the existence of every school in the country. How that benefits him, I don’t know, but he has that going for him.

Prime candidate as per DavidSt and NoDak. They could play Rutgers and Texas St in the non-conference according to them.

Wouldn't Denver hate that? Seeing the only other private member in Oral Roberts leave?

Great Plains Conference
Not northern when you have like three southern schools like Oral Roberts, Central Oklahoma and Lindenwood.

Fort Hays State does seem one of the Kansas schools to move up. Washburn used to be a member of the MVC at one time, so they would be used to that type of competition.

Lindenwood is another private from the Saint Louis metro area. Denver may like that as well.

Upper Iowa enrollment is 6,271 in the town of Fayette with a population of 1338. it would not be the first time a D1 school have a city population that small.

Fort Hays State is 14,658 in Hays, Kansas. Population wise is over 21,000. Almost the same size town as Pullman, Washington. They could fit in as a D1 program.
