NU picks up a huge sweep of Elon in Brookline.

NU is now 18-10, 5-1 in the CAA. After playing Harvard for the Beanpot title on Tuesday, they go down to Charleston for a big 3-game series between the leagues two best teams right now.

Our RPI stays at 13. And its getting noticed apparently by Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball...

@KendallRogers
That RPI isnt going down anytime soon if the Huskies keep winning. A loud weekend for @GoNU baseball

RE: Elon
I saw this today in Baseball America's Top 25 Chat ...

https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/...-tightens/

Anthony (Boston):
Could you see the CAA getting an at-large bid this year?

Teddy Cahill: I definitely can. Northeastern and College of Charleston both have the RPI for it now and don't have to play out of their minds to maintain those marks. UNC Wilmington has a chance at improving its RPI to that level, though it has work to do in that regard. Charleston has a couple big series wins against Georgia and Kansas State. Northeastern beat Creighton and split with Missouri, both of which look like regional teams. Whoever wins this weekend's series will add another solid series win to its resume. If they both keep it together in the second half, they both should be in at-large territory and I won't be surprised if UNCW puts itself in that position. I don't know that the CAA can pull off three bids, but two is looking increasingly likely.

Also from Baseball America ...

Two weekend series you shouldnt overlook ...

Northeastern at College of Charleston: The Colonial Athletic Association has made some noise so far this season with Charleston sweeping Georgia, UNC Wilmington winning a series at Arizona State and Northeasterns continued presence in the top 15 of the RPI. Charleston (25-9, 7-2) and Northeastern (18-10, 5-1), the top two teams in the standings, will square off for a key showdown. The winner not only will have an edge in the conference title race, it also will add a solid series win to its NCAA Tournament resume.

RE: Elon
One more online chat from Monday on D1Baseball.com with Kendall Rogers ...

Comment From Justin
With NU/CofC this weekend in Charleston..what are your thoughts on the Huskies getting an at large if they take the series, finish strong, and keep an RPI in the top 15?

Kendall Rogers:
Justin — If the Huskies finish in the Top 15, there’s zero doubt they are in the postseason. They are to the point now where as long as they continue to win, that RPI is not going to drop much even with some bad RPI teams still left on the schedule. For instance, N’Eastern even has a path to finish the season in the Top 8 from an RPI standpoint. Crazy!

RE: Elon
I missed this last one posted to Aaron Fitt of D1Baseball in Monday’s chat ...

Comment From Would a dominate performance by either CAA squad Northeastern or Charleston this weekend get one into the ranking discussion?
Also, is North Carolina head and shoulders the best state for baseball at the moment with 4 ranked teams and some solid mid-majors (UNCG, Campbell, UNCW)?

Aaron Fitt:
Interesting question you pose here; this is definitely a great year for the state of NC, and last week we had ECU, NC State and UNC all projected to host regionals — and they only strengthened their cases this past weekend. Duke obviously is strongly in the hosting discussion too. I don’t know about “head and shoulders”, but I do think the Old North State is having a better season than any other state, given the performance of the top teams compared with the top teams in other states.

Aaron Fitt:
And yes, I think whichever team wins that Northeastern-CofC series will factor strongly into our Top 25 discussion next week. Doesn’t mean they’ll be ranked, but there’s certainly a possibility.
