He had a good day with several good runs and some plays that were called back on penalties. I think we will see a lot of him this fall.

I also liked what I saw out of Geiger. He is a "damn the torpedos, full speed ahead" kind of player -- fun to watch.

What I liked about Geiger was he didn't juke he just lower his shoulders and drill his body through the defenders at full speed.

I know Williams didn’t have a great day, but he needs to deliver the W at Liberty. Needs to get off to the right start out of the gate..

Wow fast forward to this time last year. I seem to remember Arnold and Larussa being the talk of the spring game. We will be 4-8 at best if they are our QBs. I may be wrong, and I’m not going to go back and find the thread...

RE: ODU Football - Spring Game
Minium's Millers and Wilders optimism make me nervous. Wish they'd tone it down a bit. Watching a team play itself in the spring and suggesting they may be capable of playing for a conference championship is one helluva stretch.

Wilder has a tendency IMO to be a little over the top which raises expectations. As they say, expectations are a resentment waiting to happen.

I've learned the hard way that a spring game lacks almost all context since we're not playing it against real competition. While we focus on how improved we are, so are most other teams.

Just beat Liberty and go from there. That is not going to be as easy as some think. Then if we can beat FIU I’ll start to be more optimistic

This time last year I was wondering what became of Armold. I believe that he was ranked as high as Williams if I'm not mistaken, yet had dissppeared behind a walk-on, a JUCO transfer, and a true freshman.

It may not be the end of the world if he's good enough to take the starting job.

Actually, Drayton Arnold was ranked higher than Williams on the 247 composite.

I wondered what happened last year.

I suspect that Arnold was considered too small; because what I saw of him last year, I thought he looked at least as good as everyone else.

If Arnold was top small, then Larussa is. And Heinike

Agreed - I expect this to be an extremely tough game in a hostile environment. Winning this game is critical if we hope to get to six wins. You know they would love to attach an L to the $1.3M check they’re going to have to cut us.

Have to admit I’m excited about the upcoming season. Kudos to the team that put together the schedule - great games (home and away). We went to the ECU game last time and it was an absolute blast (and an easy drive). Can’t wait for opening day and beyond. Go Monarchs!!!

Yes.
Thank you for supporting my my point.

Taylor Heinicke played FCS at ODU because he was considered too small for FBS, even by mid major standards.

I’m hoping/predicting our home game against VMI (Nov 17) will be our sixth win of the season - and then we go bowling! I think this is the toughest schedule we have ever had - now that FAU and NTX have come to life.

Like I've said on many occasions, He's always been a better salesman than coach. As of today, winning sells the program, not words.

If we lose to Liberty, our coach has to go. No if's and's or but's about it. It would be an embarrassment worthy of sending him packing back to the "Great White North".

Can't agree with this. LU has far more resources and commitment from fans and the university's management then Wilder has. Not to mention LU is opening their new stadium which will only make them all the more eager for the win.

Serious question - do they have any FBS players yet? Isn't their roster at this point still full of FCS recruits? If we lose to Liberty this year, isn't that equivalent to losing to an FCS school if the above information is true?

They have been going hard at guys who transferred down for a while. They have talent. But it would still be a bad loss.

RE: ODU Football - Spring Game
It would be a bad loss but not a "fireable" offense. We have had a ton of football success and just recently went to a bowl game. We have one of the best FBS startup records in history.

Our fans will never be happy. It's impossible to please a large portion of them.

RE: ODU Football - Spring Game
It's a "what have you done for me world". Losing to Liberty will definitely displease the fan base and well it should. "Most successful FCS start up ever" has lost it's currency. I and I suspect most fans, don't put much stock in that anymore. It was great at the time, but time marches on.
