gotta get to a suburb:

ONLY ON 3: Kids ran as shots rang out at a crowded park. Witnesses say carloads of people were shooting at each other. I found a bullet, and you’ll find out new details on @3onyourside at 10.

Of course, it's too dangerous.

No question.

Yup. It's standard around Memphis. I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not.

RE: gunfight at park - inner city too dangerous for kids?
When i first read this thread title, i figured this was a story about what happened just south of the cooper young area last night about 10 pm. I ride my mountain bike through the city a lot at night and when i got to the cooper young area, i clearly heard at least 25-30 gunshots. It was very very close. Some of it sounded like an semiautomatic weapon.

I guess that doesn't even make the news in memphis. I have found nothing on it yet.

It very well could have been nothing - there's something that happens at the train tracks on Southern that sounds a lot like that - rapid succession popping that sounds like gunfire, but it's not - it's something happening at the railroad. Our NextDoor feed blows up whenever this happens, and the rest of us have to cool down the others.

RE: gunfight at park - inner city too dangerous for kids?
I was actually on the corner of cooper and walker (one block south of cooper-young area), and i'm sure it was gunfire. I used to hear the same type of gunfire several times a week when i lived in hickory hood in the early 2000s. I hear gunfire occasionally from my (high point) neighborhood coming from the north side of summer avenue. I also hear gunfire all the time by the penal farm area when i ride the WRT system. There is a gun range there though.

The first couple "sprays" sounded like an AR 15. The 4 to 5 shots a minute later sounded like a hand gun.

But really, that's nothing. I've always lived inside the "loop" of memphis, and starting at midnight on new year's eve, you will hear 1000s of rounds going off in all directions. It's crazy.

When it's a slow news night in Memphis, you can always count on NewsChannel3 to go out and find some violent story to lead the newscast with. Their 'teasers' before the news talk about the violence without giving the location. Only when the news starts and you get into the story, do you find out its Blytheville, Forrest City, Southaven, Helena/West Helena or last night, Halls.

They're all horrible about this on all social media. The click tease, then you find out the story is actually from Florida or Ohio or something.

Of course, some idiots who don't actually read it make disparaging comments about Memphis.

If you think guns and violence are restricted to Memphis you are nuts.

There has been a weird Halls, Ripley, Dyersburg, Chicago, Memphis thing for a long time.

And yes, drivebys, gang activity is rampant, shoot this one, shoot that one.

People just straight up disappear.

And that was 30 years ago.

It's gotten worse around there from what I understand.

Haven't been back since my mom died.

I, for the life of me, cannot understand why our local news try so hard to drive away their customers (i.e. eyeballs) out of the area, it can't be good having the same number of eyeballs you had 20 years ago from a revenue perspective. I'm not for sugarcoating, but constant fearmongering to me is bad business in the long run.

The TV ratings are published every year n.... they don't seem to be interested in the long run
