Also my prediction for the Canada trip this August: We will drop at least one of those "games" and some people will freak out for no reason.

If you'd have gone to UC during the Dave Currey/Tony Yates years, you'd be thrilled with where UC is now on all fronts.

Based on those standards nobody should ever complain.. I take it you were for keeping Tubs around too because... well at least it was better than the Currey years.

Thinking like that is what keeps programs from progressing. If you aren't going forward you are going backwards.

* Please note I am not calling for anyone being fired right now or comparing Mick to Tubs. I am just pointing out the flaw in the argument everyone should be thrilled because of what happened 30 years ago.

Don't put words in my mouth. I want UC to do well as much as any of you and if it means canning somebody, so be it.

Just trying to provide a little perspective for the OUR FOOTBALL SUCKS!!! OUR BASKETBALL SUCKS!!! OUR COACHES SUCK!!! EVERYTHING SUCKS!!!! crowd.

Things aren't as bad a some around here make it.

George Mason - 198

Mississippi - 145

So...at least we're not playing all of our games at a YMCA with people they picked up off the beach tapping into Air Traffic Control frequencies to call the game this year...it's the little things.

Not up on Western Mich. yet for the coming year, but that's a good name for an "early round" game in of these tourneys.

Not a bad tournament. But isn't UC overdue to be in a really great one? UCONN's brand has lost some luster; Memphis has stumbled, WSU came down to earth a little playing in the American. So arguably, UC is the best brand in the league right now. It would be great to have a couple of games with P5 programs in November in a major pre-conference tournament on ESPN.

NC Central in the last five years has made three NCAA tournaments and one NIT. WMU has been a middle pack MAC team. Georgia Mason is probably going to be a post season team next year and a sleeper to win the A-10. All three of those games are the type of games needed in a strong non-conference schedule. What UC does with the other five non-conference games is where things get interesting. In my view UC needs one more road test and two middle level buy games. Two lower end buy games are fine as long as those teams are closer to 200 than 300.

Right now I would breakdown the schedule as the following

NCAA/NIT resume quality games
Ohio State
UCLA
Xavier
@Miss State
Baylor/Ole Miss
George Mason

Solid buy games
WMU
NC Central

I don't hate it. It's not Maui or Atlantis, but it's probably better than last year's tournament considering the quality buy games. It seems we can't afford to buy games against the MAC, although I wish we could. It would be better for RPI and probably give a modest bump in attendance.

RE: 2018-19 Hoops schedule
Mississippi State should be really good next year. I've seen them in a lot of preseason top 25 polls, even ranked as high as #15 (CBS Sports). They return virtually everyone from last year's squad that won 25 games and advanced to the NIT semifinals. I really like the way the schedule is shaping up so far, but hopefully we can afford at least slightly better buy games.

That joker expects us to "do well as usual" by finishing 7th in the AAC, with no postseason appearance.

Only way UC finishes lower than 3rd and misses the NCAA tournament next season would be to have an SMU situation from the past season where every top player gets hurt.

My picks

1. Cincinnati
2. Houston
3. UConn
4. UCF
5. SMU
6. Memphis
7. Wichita State
8. Temple
9. Tulsa
10. USF
11. Tulane
12. ECU

I believe we are looking once again at 2 to 3 bid league. Cats will win 24 to 26 games overall and 13 to 15 league games, 5 to 7 seven seed in the tournament.

What wouldn't shock me is if UC is only team to earn an NCAA bid next season from the American. The rest of the league is going to be very average.

My way-too-early poll:

1) Houston

4) SMU
5) Temple
6) Memphis

7) Tulsa
8) UConn
9) Wichita State

10) Tulane

3 NCAA teams. 2-3 NIT teams.

Just saw where Kris Wilkes is withdrawing from the draft and returning to UCLA.

Could've done without that...

We get them at home, so we need them to be good if a win over them is going to count for anything. I doubt they'll be juggernauts, but I would like them to at least be a tier 2 on the resume.
