NU salvaged the final game of a 3-game series at Charleston this weekend, winning 2-1. Sean Mellen went 5 innings (5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB). Kyle Murphy picked a 4 inning save, his 5th.

NU lost Friday night 4-1 and lost a tough 5-4 game on Saturday. NU stopped a 3-game losing streak (Harvard, 2 to CofC) that saw our RPI drop from 13 to 24 coming into Sunday. So this win was BIG! Charleston upped their RPI to the low 30's with the wins this weekend.

We're now 6-11 vs. RPI Group 1-50.

NU is done with the other top 2 teams (CofC and Elon). The rest of the CAA schedule is:

W&M, who's having a bad year, In Brookline, Towson in Brookline, at Hofstra, UNCW in Brookline and at Delaware, who's nowhere near as good as they were last year.

Got to sweep the home series IMO. That loss to Harvard in the Beanpot Championship game at home dropped our RPI from 13 to 18.

As long as we don't end the season in the 30's I think we still have a great shot at an at-large IMO.

The only good possible RPI wins left on our schedule, is Bryant at home (74 RPI) and UConn at home (9 RPI).

Comment From Glenn – NYC
What’s your overall thought on the CAA? Especially with Northeastern, CofC and UNCW in terms of at-large bids after this past weekend? Any doubts that NU and CofC can maintain their good RPI pace?

Aaron Fitt:
I like the CAA this year; notwithstanding their triple-digit RPI rankings, I think Elon and UNCW are quality clubs as well, both teams that could be very dangerous in a regional if they can win the CAA’s automatic bid. But Northeastern and CofC are the only teams with at-large chances thanks to their RPIs, and I feel like both teams are building strong at-large resumes. Feels like probably a two-bid league. Charleston does need to continue winning at a high pace to stay in the top 45 (the RPI Needs Report at Boyd’s World estimates they need to win about 14 of their last 18 games), and I suspect Northeastern will slip some, but the Needs Report says it can still finish in the top 45 with about 12 wins in its last 20 games.
