IF he decides to go to Kentucky, I'm not going to be the one to start name calling and complaining. I for sure like everyone, hope he comes here.

Totally agree.

I am curious as what Kentucky has to over that Memphis can't? This year all eyes will be on Memphis and Penny. I would think he would get more media coverage here (especially this year) than he would at Kentucky.

well, for one, Cal's track record of winning and putting players in the NBA vs. a first year head coach is something. Wiseman is a kid that could get to the NBA from anywhere, but more than likely that's going to be the biggest obstacle we have to overcome.
We have to overcome a smoke screen... because that's what the whole Cal getting players to the NBA is

99% of those kids would have declared straight from high school and probably would have been drafted higher than going a year at UK.

Except that that isn't true and it isn't a smokescreen at all. If you go through the years and compare blue chip recruits, Cal gets them to the NBA quicker and gets them paid regardless of their performance at a much better clip than Coach K, Self, Williams, Pitino...anyone else.

I could compile a list to prove my point, but it probably isn't a good idea.

One and dones.... not just ordinary historical blue chippers

Coach K for example, he totally changed his recruiting over the last couple of years. He is now beating Cal like a red headed step child at his own game. UK fans aren't happy btw.

When one and done is no more, Cal will be back in the NBA.

RE: Wisemans mom on 92.9
James Wiseman could not play at all his freshman year of college, or play for Southwest Community College, and still be the #1 pick in 2020.

Enes Kanter never played a second for Kentucky and went #3 to Utah.

Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Davis could have sacked groceries for a year, instead of playing 30 games at Kentucky, and still would have been the #1 picks.

Mitchell Robinson and Anfernee Simons didn't play a seond of college ball this year, and still will be drafted exactly where they were projected in mock drafts 8 months ago.

Anyone who thinks Coach Cal improves player's draft position in the few months he has these guys on campus doesn't understand what NBA front offices care about. Agree that Cal sells this deception successfully to high school kids, but it's ridiculous for anyone else to believe it.

That's facts.

Look at the Harrison's.

They didn't even get better after coming back for a second season.

I don't think either of them should even be in the NBA.

There are better players in the G-league and overseas.

One and dones would none and dones if it weren't for the stupid one year of college rule.

His mom did say today that this year has been harder on James cause he's taking the required college courses. 05-stirthepot

I don't think anyone thinks Coach Cal makes them better players. He does give them a huge platform to showcase their skills a bit more though. That's why he really took off at UK. He was getting 1 one and done here for his last couple of seasons, at UK it's jumped up to 4-5-6. I'd say it could be the same at UCLA, UNC, and so on if they had the right coaches in place that wanted to do it that way. A lot of what's frustrating UK fans is the fact he keeps doing this with freshmen and it's not getting them Championships.

I don't think there is any doubt that Coach Cal loves these kids and wants whats best for them. At a school like UK though where they "only hang National Championship banners" that's not good enough. Now that Coach K who has had more success and has just as big a platform is playing the game, it will be harder for him to consistently land the best of the best but he'll still get his share and UK will be a solid threat for the Sweet 16 or better 9/10.

It's hard for a team full of one and dones to win the title though. There has to be a mix of experience. Even UK's title in 2012 with Anthony Davis had Darius Miller (SR), Terrance Jones (SO), Doron lamb (SO).

I like what Coach Penny is doing. He is going to end up with a good balance by his 3rd season. Memphis will have tons of talent and a good amount of experience.
