Illinois County declares itself a "sanctuary county" for 2nd Amendment rights

Quote:Effingham County has declared itself a "sanctuary" for gun owners.

In a resolution that leaders acknowledge is largely symbolic, the county board this week directed its employees not to enforce any new Illinois law that would "unconstitutionally restrict the Second Amendment."

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the resolution, adopted by an 8-1 vote, will not affect decision-making in the sheriff's office. Sheriff Dave Mahon agreed.

The wording "unconstitutionally restrict the Second Amendment" is open to wide interpretation, the local officials noted. And that makes the resolution more political than practical.

Quote:Kibler drew a parallel between the resolution and actions by some municipalities in other matters.

"If you can be a 'sanctuary county' for undocumented immigrants, why can't you be one for firearms?" Kibler said.

Quote:The resolution also opposed a number of bills currently active at the General Assembly, including one vetoed by Gov. Bruce Rauner that would have required additional registration for gun shops.

The resolution started as a suggestion by local firearms owners and the businesses that cater to them, said Effingham County Board Member David Campbell, who introduced the resolution. He modeled it on a similar resolution passed by the Iroquois County Board on March 13.

"This reaffirms that Effingham County does support our Second Amendment rights," Campbell said.

Quote:"I don't want Chicago gun laws here, because they don't seem to be working there," said Effingham County Board Board Chairman Jim Niemann.

America is waking up

A 79% Trump county with a documented history of racism is trying to be 'super NRA'? Not a surprise.

Exactly. She won 2/3's of the GDP vote, and places which are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, and moving forward. This place is obviously "backwards" Trump country, and deserves to be treated as such, just like the rest of IL that's not Chicago, OH, PA, WI, MI, MO, and IA.

You still with her?
