ACC Most Viewed Conference Games 2013-2017
ACC Most Viewed Conference Games 2013-2017 with at least 3 million viewers:

2014 - GT vs FSU; 10.150 million viewers; ABC; ACCCG
2016 - UL vs Clem; 9.294 million viewers; ABC
2014 - FSU vs Miami; 8.740 million viewers; ABC
2013 - Miami vs FSU; 8.350 million viewers; ABC
2015 - Clem vs UNC; 7.919 million viewers; ABC; ACCCG
2015 - FSU vs Clem; 7.563 million viewers; ABC
2014 - Clem vs FSU; 7.340 million viewers; ABC
2016 - FSU vs UL; 6.216 million viewers; ABC
2013 - FSU vs Clem; 5.680 million viewers; ABC
2013 - Duke vs FSU; 5.660 million viewers; ABC; ACCCG
2016 - FSU vs Miami; 5.540 million viewers; ABC
2017 - Clem vs Miami; 5.428 million viewers; ABC; ACCCG
2016 - Clem vs FSU; 5.380 million viewers; ABC
2016 - Clem vs VT; 5.338 million viewers; ABC; ACCCG
2017 - Clem vs UL; 5.206 million viewers; ABC
2014 - FSU vs UL; 4.970 million viewers; ESPN; Thursday night game
2016 - Pitt vs Clem; 4.926 million viewers; ABC
2017 - Clem vs VT; 4.693 million viewers; ABC
2017 - Miami vs Pitt; 4.663 million viewers; ABC
2016 - NCST vs Clem; 4.506 million viewers; ABC
2013 - FSU vs Pitt; 4.470 million viewers; ESPN
2014 - Miami vs UL; 3.610 million viewers; ESPN
2015 - Miami vs FSU; 3.502 million viewers; ABC
2017 - GT vs Miami; 3.441 million viewers; ABC
2017 - UVA vs Miami; 3.339 million viewers; ABC
2015 - FSU vs BC; 3.148 million viewers; ESPN2; Friday night game
2014 - GT vs VT; 3.140 million viewers; ESPN
2014 - UVA vs VT; 3.050 million viewers; ESPN
2017 - VT vs Miami; 3.011 million viewers; ESPN

The majority of these were also in the Top 40 list, but the bottom three were not. Interesting that all three involve VT, which to me shows me that the Hokies are the ACC's best chance of getting at least 4 programs consistently receiving good ratings.

In the out-of-conference category VT also has one game that drew at least 4 million or more viewers each year. It didn't hurt that two of those games were against Ohio State and one against Alabama, but still I think even VT fans would say that their program has been basically at best "above average" these past 5 years. The last two years have shown an upward trend.

Cheers,
Neil

I would say that VT is perfectly capable of being the ACC's 4th best draw - but if it ever happens again that the ACC needs VT to be the #1 draw, we're probably in trouble. In fact, I'd even say Clemson struggles in that role. FSU and Miami are well suited to take the lead in TV ratings because... Florida.

Agreed. As I see it the ACC needs at least two of FSU, Miami, and Clemson doing well each and every year and then at least one of Virginia Tech and Louisville do well supporting those programs, preferably both.

Cheers,
Neil

FSU in 10 of top 12 games.

Agreed, Miami usually is a great TV rating school. Like with basketball, if you need certain schools to do well, you support them like the ACC does in basketball.

Right now, Clemson's amazing success on the field is carrying the ACC, regardless of TV ratings (but that only happens with national titles a rare feat for any school)

Hail nole,

Agreed on Clemson. What a magnificent run with huge post season wins over the likes of Ohio State (twice - once in the CFP semis), Oklahoma (twice - once in the CFP semis), and Alabama for the NC. Mad respect for the Tigers. As for the Noles, as I have said many, many times on this board FSU is the single greatest addition in conference realignment history.

In regard to the ratings list, probably wise to use Top 12 as the cut-off, especially since it is less than half of the list making it more notable being in that grouping.

I, myself, was going back and forth on the Top 15 vs 17, especially since it encompasses all of the ACCCGs and each of those 15 games are over 5 million viewers. Not to mention that 15 on a list of 29 is the exact halfway point. But the next two are so close to 5 million viewers I hated to exclude them.

Using the Top 15 I count 10 appearances for FSU, 9 appearances for Clemson, 4 appearances for Miami, 3 appearances for Louisville, and then 1 each for GT, UNC, Duke, and VT with each of those single appearances being in the ACCCG.

Cheers,
Neil

Got to get all the way down to the 19th best game before there's a game without either FSU or Clemson. 19 out of the top 20 involve one or the other.

Seems like we truly are carrying this conference in football.

Have to get all the way down to #27 before we get to the two games without at least one of FSU, Clemson, or Miami - with VT being in both of those games.

As for your last comment that I bolded above this Orange fan thanks FSU and Clemson for carrying the load in these unsettling times due to conference realignment.

But in the 00s, my gut says Clemson was less dominant in terms of ACC CFB TV ratings than VT, with FSU and VT being the top two during that time frame. So who knows what the next decade will bring?

Interesting side note - I am only two years through the SEC conference games, but they already have 34 conference games so far with 3 million or more viewers and all but 4 of those 34 involved Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

The Tennessee vs Texas A&M game is #12 on the list at this point, but the other three match-ups not involving at least one of Alabama, Georgia and Florida were towards the bottom.

My gut is telling me that when it comes to CFB TV ratings three-to-four teams dominate each of the Greater 2, while the Lesser 3 usually have to manage with 2.

Hopefully by early May I will the data to present for all P5 conferences.

Cheers,
Neil
