The banner is extra, but rings are not special. Teams get rings when they win a bowl game, so i guess they just add "national champs" to theirs or something.

This gets under the skin of Alabama fans and it is glorious.

The point is to embarrass the CFP Selection Committee into recognizing there are 10 FBS conferences—not 5. It also tends to build public support for better playoff access in the future for the G5.

Them versus us has nothing to do with it and is just childish

UCF played zero ranked P5 teams, no team is going to any respect by beating up on G5 team especially weak AAC teams.

When Boise was ranked #2 they had beaten multiple ranked P5 teams plus had beaten P5 Champ in a BCS bowl the previous years. Yes they would have been included.

They wouldn’t been nowhere near that high going 13-0 in the WAC pretty much what UCF did in the AAC. The AAC is nowhere near a P5 schedule, trust me Tech knows we destroyed an AAC bowl team and beat their regular season champs year before in a bowl

I got no problem with UCF doing this. 13 (?) teams, including Auburn, had a chance to do something about this last season, and couldn't get it done. Advantage UCF. National Champions as far as I'm concerned.

Any FBS team that goes undefeated should claim the mythical national championship for that year. Any.

Boise State finished 13-0, beat a higher rank team in a BCS bowl and finished higher than UCF in the final AP poll but they didn’t claim to be National Champs.

UCF you are not the only team to go undefeated, you are not champs, never will be, and nobody recognize you as champs besides the UCF community.

Maybe they saw it as marketing ploy to bring attention instead it just made them into laughing stock of college athletics.

The above post is a great example of the stupidity and absurdity that currently exists within the G5. (Yes, I know he claims to be a LA Tech fan. But he's still an idiot for posting that. He's just our idiot.)

Most G5 fans --including Dawgxas-- gripe and complain about the unfair P5 system because it mostly excludes G5 schools from receiving a fair chance to participate in the official playoff system. And yet, when an undefeated G5 finally wins a New Year's Day Bowl against a team (Auburn) that had already beaten both participants in the "real" NC earlier this season, the G5 haters turn on their own.

It's no wonder the P5 folks don't respect the G5's, and don't want us participating in their little playoff system.

It was funny when I thought they were just trolling to bring attention to the sham that is the cfp, but the banner and rings are embarrassing imo.

Granted they didn't play a P5 schedule. And though they did beat Auburn, who beat both Georgia and Alabama (and beat both by double digits I might add), we remind each other over and over that victories in sports aren't transitive - we can't just use that when it suits us and dismiss it when it doesn't. The Boise State comments are also relevant here as well.

Nevertheless, on behalf of UCF and G5 programs in general, I just see this as the Knights' way of doing this to the NCAA...



So I don't really take issue with it, but I also think there's a point at which they need to let it go.

Alabama claims a national title in 1941 when they lost two games.
I know ole miss claims one that one thinks they should have and I feel like other schools do to.
If Alabama can claim national championships due to revisionist history, why can UCF.
I love what they are doing because it makes the committee look bad for freezing them out.

Very well said, Frisco and others. The "FBS" system is corrupt. So one illegitimate claim is just as valid as another illegitimate claim.

I am not embarrassed by UCF. Do I think they deserve to be calling themselves NCAA champions? No, I don't. At the same time, had FAU been in their position, I would be happy if we were doing the same thing.
