Why do I get the feeling that this midterm will be a litmus tests for the #Trumpresistance but it will only be a litmus test if the Democrat wins?

When the Republican wins the mid-terms will be immediately forgotten outside of some feel good stories on the front page of the NYT about how a random old GOP white guy was defeated in some purple district by a grievance group minority, of which the takeaway from that one race is that Trump will be impeached.

And as we have pointed out, public statements are not perjury. Its only a crime if its under oath or to a law enforcement agency. Otherwise, every lawyer in the country would be in jail.

The midterms will be seen in the context of two things

1) Whether Trump will be Impeached and/or Convicted while in office
2) The 2020 Presidential race

The best case scenario for the GOP appears to be to retain the House with a smaller majority while getting absolutely crushed in the raw House vote and to retain the Senate. I think that's a bit optimistic for the GOP. In that case, Trump doesn't get impeached and he doesn't face a Republican primary

If the Dems take over the House, impeachment is likely, although they'd need to win somewhere around 70 in the House and 3 in the Senate to create the 'disaster scenario' for Trump. Remember a 70 seat Dem pickup would require a much greater percentage for the Dems in 2018 than it did for the GOP in 2010 due to gerrymandering. In this case, Trump would be seen as so toxic that Trump would face a bruising GOP primary and he'd have to face impeachment. If those 70 seats in the House were combined with a 3 seat loss in the Senate, then Conviction is a slight possibility. I think this scenario is a bit optimistic for the Dems

I think we land at a Dem pickup of around 40-50 in the House and either a Mike Pence led 50-50 tie in the Senate or a 1 seat majority for the Dems.

On the day after the midterms, its all going to be about 2020. How would those voter totals look in a general election, by state?

Real Crime: Defeated "I'm with her"

Short term prognosis: Continued proclamations of easy Republican defeat coupled with willingness to bet money on the outcome of Republican party in ashes.

Long term prognosis: Very public actual crying and gnashing of teeth, etc. when this all but assured Democrat victory doesn't materialize. Followed by extreme sulking and lamenting about how the US as we know it is gone..............

So Rosenstein has told the Trump administration he is not a target in any investigation going on now by Mueller and yet Mueller has already written up articles of impeachment? Not that writing AOI is even in the SCs investigative powers.

Proving firing Comey was due to obstructing justice is about as likely as Eastern Michigan winning the NCAA football championship next year. Everyone knew Comey needed to be fired for many reasons.

Takes serious mental impairment with TDS to think a misleading public statement is a crime or getting Sessions not to recuse himself. And it wasn't particularly misleading. Adoption was peripheral to the discussion as anyone who understood the Magnitsky act understood.

Really big stretch on the pardons bit. Most of the info is "anonymous sources" from the MSM.

I'm guessing this is all just fan fiction by the media playing Democrats for idiots for clicks and succeeding.
