Next years team
As of now?
5-Parks Jr./Maurice/Enoh
4- Davenport/Thornton
3- Martin/Jones/Hardaway
2-Harris/Brewton
1-Lomax
Lot of interchanging parts. Could go bigger with the starters...not sure who of the 3 in the back court would not start?

RE: Next years team
That’s a pretty solid team for a first year coach. Penny got some good pieces to go along with the returnees before setting up 2019 with all of his guys

I hate to say this guys, but I really think Harris starts in front of Lomax. Brewton may start first game or 2.
Harris, Martin and Jones with
Parks and Davenport/Maurice is prolly the starting 5 (unless the new guy we don't know about yet starts)
And I also believe that we are definitely in the NCAAs this season.

I agree completely. Harris was being promised starter and many minutes, he would not have signed with Memphis without being showcased. Lomax is Penny's guy, he would be much more willing to come off the bench to help Penny.

Tyler will be good for us, but I cannot see him and Jeremiah playing together. They are both too ball dominant. I think that Brewton might be the odd man out in the rotation. There are a lot of guards, and he might be the least talented of the bunch. Although I think a Harris/Brewton back-court off the bench would be a great scoring punch.

I watched them all play. Lomax will start as a TRUE PG which is almost always required to be successful in CBB. Martin is going to start. I think Penny will also start Harris. All three of these guys are better than Brewton. Penny has mentioned small ball several times already. He may recruit another guard. It adds up.
And if you think Penny is going to possibly screw up team chemistry by promising anyone other than a difference maker type player “many minutes” , I think you are wrong; Penny doesn’t have to do that.

Penny is smart enough to understand matchups. Starters are interchangeable depending on opponents.

Agree unless you play small ball. GSW makes the other team worry about matchups. But that offense is a big bite for the first year.

This team in the ACC or Big 12 might not cut the NCAA but being in the AAC especially with many top teams losing key players, I think the drought is over.

What? You realize the Tub of con made it to the NCAA with a 500 record?

Not talking politics or feelings or promises.
Our guards would be ranked (by me, anyway) in this order
Antwaan Jones
Tyler Harris
Jeremiah Martin ( 3 years experience )
Alex Lomax
Kareem Brewton ( but he's got experience )
So, if we're starting 3 guards, I'd pick jones, Harris and Martin, and I'd press and run and Brewton and Lomax would get plenty of minutes. Starting those 3 and you can't talk small ball because Martin is 6'3" and jones is 6'6" (oh and Brewton 6'2"). So, small is only when Lomax and Harris are on the court together, that will happen, but only when it makes sense.
But I'm just thinking, let Lomax prove me wrong.

Brewton will get plenty of minutes....To think otherwise is silly. The freshman will have a big learning curve. Brewton, while not a great shooter, can get to the rim pretty good and play D.

My opinion ,jones will absolutely start; probably at the 3. The highest rated most complete game of the newcomers. I personally don’t believe anyone was promised a starting job, not penny’s style, plus most good players don’t want to hear that anyway.i also feel Enoh is gonna make big improvements. Penny loves specialists, Enoh could literally not shoot, and fit in penny’s plans. We shall see

Who has seen Jones play an entire game against elite competition? It’s a bit of a stretch to say he is better going off rankings which you guys seem to put a lot of importance on kids ranked around 100.

The best “point guard” on the team is Lomax. Period. He’s not the best scorer or shooter, but hands down Alex Lomax is the best PG, and because he’s the best PG, he will be on the floor a bunch.

Furthermore, if you want all of the other guards to excel and score and have open looks... Lomax is the one to set em up.

We will see when they actually play. Nobody knows how players will adapt to the college game. Kind of obvious but always true.
