1 person is chosen Mr Basketball in KY where the class system is not in play. There are 5 or up in most states and the NBA has nothing to do with that.

In a state of ~4.5 million people, I don't see much difference in naming one Mr. Basketball or one per classification as is often the case.

Either the state isn't turning out NBA players any more or they stopped being good at identifying the best player ~30 years ago.

The NBA still has nothing to do with the comment he made.

I think we're arguing two different things.

Do I understand the logic of one Mr. Basketball versus five "meaning more"? Sure, of course I do.

However, I'd submit that when fans talk about their players high school accolades, it's meant to project a certain level of success and I wouldn't say the last thirty years of Mr. Basketballs is exactly a "who's who" of great college players.

You can chance it anyway you want...your choice. But it does not change the facts of what was said.

"Change the facts"?

Okay, let's look at the "facts" he said in Kentucky winning Mr. Basketball "actually means something", to me that implies that in other states being Mr. Basketball of your classification is meaningless.

Facts?

I'm really not though. He didn't say it "means more" in Kentucky, he said it "actually means something".

You're the one insisting on dealing with "facts".

So how is it not a "fact" to suggest that "actually means something in Kentucky" means "actually meaningless in other states"? If the former is a "fact" the latter must also be a "fact".

No, I'm not, because I acknowledged the implied difference directly a few posts ago.

RE: WKU now has 2 Mr. Basketballs
It really shouldn't have been this hard for you.....

it means something because there's only one winner. Those players in a lower class are competing with the big city kids.

Hell I didn't take it to even mean the best player always wins....they don't. I'm sure there's states out there that a class 5 or 1 winner is better than the KY Mr Basketball. But it means something to be the only player in the state to win this award.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Going off the past it actually means something for Western. Western has made a sweet 16 during the 4 years we had a Ky Mr Basketball on the roster.

I fully acknowledge we're arguing semantics here, but this explanation works for Mr. Basketball meaning more as there's just one winner, I've already said understand that logic.

So no, this hasn't been "...this hard for me." I clearly understand that being one winner out of all classifications means more than being the winner of your classification, amomg other winners of their classifications.

However...

Implies that winning Mr. Basketball in other states, in which there are multiple winners, means nothing, not less, but nothing.

It's really easy to pull your chain.....

You start off using the NBA and then try to change what was say to fit your thinking. But to be honest I really don't care what you thought or if you were wrong or not.

Still dont and I'm not saying that as a negative

You need to get out more. Kentucky only has 4.5 million.

Atlanta metro has 5.8 million
Houston metro has 6.3 million
Dallas metro has 7.2 million

Lots of places with more folks than Kentucky. As big as Charlotte is it’s only 1/3 the size of the Dallas Metroplex.

Hell, Louieville is our biggest city and it’s metro is only 1.3 million. Lexington is next biggest at 500k. BG’s metro is only 165k.

There’s small places out there clt. Get off the lawn mower and discover them.

I just mean there are no pissing contests among Mr. Basketball’s in KY. There is 1. We are a proud high school basketball state without classes. Edmonton County (small school) can have THE award winner just as Louisville Trinity (cheating, huge private school). Take it the way you want to Middle fan. We all know where high school basketball ranks in your state... way down on the list. The award has nothing to do with the NBA or college ability.

Why would I care about the comparative quality of a sport I don't follow between a state I've visited a few times and a state I lived in for ~20% of my life?

I'm not a Tennessee native or a high school basketball fan, so... congrats?
