Ford Motor is getting out of the car (sedan) business
Ford is killing off the Fusion, Taurus, and Fiesta to focus on SUV and Trucks

Ford will continue the Mustang and Focus.

I know trucks and SUV are their bread and butter, but I think this will bite them on the butt.

I thought the Fusion was a successful vehicle!

Wow! What a bizarre decision.

Yep, me to. One of them is a 97 f150 work truck with over 300k miles and still cranks with 1 turn of the key and drives like a dream.

CAFE standards may have an impact on Ford's decision. Light trucks have a lower target than passenger cars.

I drive a Taurus.

I remember that. I guess Ford never recovered.

The corollary to that is that Ford seems to also be betting on low gas prices. If a significant gas spike comes at some point, those low CAFE standards will bite Ford in the butt.

I don't know anything about how much Ford is working on electric or hybrid trucks. Maybe that's their thing. If not, Ford seems to represent the classic US corporate philosophy--short term stockholder value over long term investment and viability.

Have owned several Ford vehicles bought new--going all the way back to Pintos (yeah I know) and Escorts. They were all great and reliable vehicles--over 150K and no problems. By comparison--my 2011 Subaru Outback has needed numerous repairs. Thank god for the extended warranty I bought.
