RE: Sunday Baseball Game Thread- Senior Day vs UAB
I was glum , going into the game today, but had no idea how rough it would turn out to be. I’ve 60-plus years of institutional memory coursing around in these Coumadin-thinned veins, and it’s been heart-rendingly depressing at times. I remember the lows, I know how close we came to the precipice, wherein we’d have lost our entire athletic identity. I know how this one man came in and made all the difference at a time when we were very nearly over the edge. I know. I KNOW that, but for him, by now we’d have been relegated to the realm of club sports, another little Bowdoin wandering in the Suthwestern wilderness. At the end, it just all came rushing in, a desperate feeling of loss. And I know it wasn’t simply about that kind of loss, but rather, moreso, an involuntary reflex against the kinds of personal losses that inevitably mount up during the course of a now-long, relatively eventful life. If we are to live, we are to experience loss.

It was just a difficult day. And I do sincerely thank a certain friend who came to bandage me at just the right moment.

It’ll be alright.

I feel your emotion, and understand how you, who have helped so many of us appreciate and support Rice sports over the years, would be affected as this era ends. You've sure done your part, and I hope with all my heart that you're correct that "it'll be alright".
